"The first uMalusi was self-funded and made out of necessity. It took six years to make the second because we were waiting for the audience to tell us they wanted it. They did, and they kept asking where the love story goes. That's what turned this into a trilogy."

One night. One million rand. Both of you have to agree.

Yes or no? Tell me in the comments, because that's the argument uMalusi is built on.

Caught up with Mo G on 938 Afternoon Drive about it.

There’s nothing quite like experiencing a story with an audience.

From the laughter, the silence, the gasps, and the conversations that followed, our premiere screening of SOLITARY reminded us why we tell stories in the first place.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, engaged with the film, and stayed for the Q&A session. It was a privilege for our cast and crew to share the creative journey behind the project—the challenges, the inspirations, and the passion that brought SOLITARY to life.

Moments like these belong to everyone who believed in the film from day one.

The journey continues. 🎬

We shot something.

A story about isolation.
About longing.
About the dangerous comfort of being understood.

I had the honour of stepping into her skin —
and scoring the silence between her thoughts.

My favourite friendships are the ones that allow you to cook magic together. The bonds that afford you growth and lessons. The ones where you can trust, support and congratulate each other. The ones that have no choice but to last for a lifetime. The friendships that are immortalised. by @mlidube

Presenting Mli Dube for Freedom Street

A showcase isn’t a true BAI Showcase without a preview or sneak peek and this weekend we have an exclusive one. Previous BAI Alumni, Mli Dube will be providing a sneak peek of his debut-feature film Freedom Street, this Friday at our opening night reception.

This represents a full circle BAI moment since we had the opportunity to screen it’s web-series at our 2019 Showcase. From web-to-film, we can’t wait to share in Mli’s preview moment this Friday at Heatseekers Showcase at Artistry.

Bringing my series of conversations with Screenwriters to a close (for now). I'm joined by Rolie Nikiwe, the co-creator and director of 'Heist'. A South African drama series that premiered on e.tv in 2016. Inspired by a daring real-life robbery that took place during a Justin Bieber concert near Soweto, the show follows a group of misfits as they plot and execute a high-stakes heist. Set against the socio-economic struggles of township life, Heist explores themes of desperation, ambition, and the moral complexities of crime, all within a distinctly South African context.

We’ll dive into the layered process of crafting a heist story for television, examining how the show uses universal genre tropes while grounding them in the lived realities of South African audiences.
