Thank you to the @cardinals, @memphisredbirds and @springfield_cardinals for the opportunity to continue chasing my dream! Thank you to the coaches, staff, and teammates that I’ve gotten to share this journey with. I’ve had some of the most fun playing baseball in the last 2 years with you. Now it’s time to start a new chapter with the @redsox and I can’t wait to get going again! by @mlloyd02

The Red Sox selected Matt Lloyd with their second pick in the Rule 5 Draft

Lloyd was originally a 15th round pick of the Reds in the 2019 MLB draft, they released him and he went to Indy Ball for a season before inking a contract with the Cardinals. Then being taken from the Cardinals by the Sox in this year's Rule 5 Draft. Lloyd simply mashes, insane exit velos, home run numbers, and extra base hits. Line drives and home run power to all parts of the field and facing either righty or lefty. In AAA last season he hit to a .272 AVG, .364 OBP, .434 SLG and .798 OPS. In 78 games he hit 8 homers, 18 doubles, drove in 50, and recorded 74 hits. He hit a triple and stole 7 bases. In 2024 in AA he hit 17 homers in 121 games. He has position versatility at first base and the corner outfield spots. Doesn't even have crazy strikeout numbers given his playing style, he walked 41 times and struck out 77 times. The 29 year old is projected to be on Worcester's opening day roster and go from there! by @mlloyd02
