Nothing like loving yourself 🌷🩵

This fashion show organised by @thestandard.singapore in conjunction with @howdrama is one I’ll remember forever.

I had so much fun opening the show in this stunning ensemble by @eltwine and celebrating femininity, self-love and inclusivity.

I started modelling because while I do enjoy and find passion in it, I have always known diversity and representation matters.

This clicked again when I first tried out the clothes and at the pre-show fitting realising, “wow, this is the first time I’m actually wearing a cheongsam as an adult.” It debunked the thought in my mind that I couldn’t fit and realised it was all in my head. I think the last time I wore a cheongsam, I was seven or eight. Though it did not make it to the show, I will try on this original cheongsam that I ended up purchasing and will proudly wear it, one of these days. It did not just made me look or feel beautiful. The outfit made me love the body that I’m in and that I am thankful for. The journey of how far I have come into accepting the way I am and my culture, that includes some Hakka roots in the rich makeup of my ethnicity and learning Basic Chinese back in school.

I was also reminded of why I started modelling when I saw the casting and got to know the models that were part of the show. It is absolutely validating and amazing seeing how we all had different backgrounds, cultures, personalities and bodies. Our own stories to tell and our own beauty that lives inside.

At thirty, I am discovering what makes me beautiful in every move I make but realising it’s more than just skin-deep. It’s my story.

A glimpse of @orchardroadfashionweek from my eyes 🧚🏻‍♀️✨💕

The journey started here back in June, @orchardroadfashionweek announced there was an open casting call for models. 🥹💗

I signed up and took a chance on myself, honestly not sure what to expect.

When I received my comp card that’s when I realised it’s been about a year since I gave modelling a proper chance. It reminded me of the different experiences and opportunities I’ve had (that I’m super grateful for) which have led me here. My heart became full knowing that I was actually doing this my way, stepping into fashion again with this newfound passion for the runway and photoshoots. More so, connecting with this community I’ve always loved for their unapologetic determination towards the pursuit of beauty, creativity, expression and personal style.

It also made me realise how different the industry is today and how I have grown too. 🦋

Back when I was a teenager, there was no such thing as a curve model and being thirty as a model was unheard of. There was a lack of representation and diversity. It was pretty dismal but that was what was desired in fashion then.

As I turned thirty and with this opportunity, it hit me as an independent model, I finally have a chance to represent women like me and honour the women who came before on homeground. The idea that I could be a vessel to possibly wear the garments and give life to this art that was created by an upcoming or thriving designer.

Platforms like these are one in a million.

All I could hold on to was hope.

A month from the casting, I received a message from one of the organisers who shared that I was selected to walk for @orchardroadfashionweek at one of the shows—it honestly felt like a little win! 🦋💖

I still remember the moment I found out the result. It felt so kismet and made that night a little more magical. I was on the way home from a dance open-jam at @the.living.room.sg led by @wolfboynat and @yuniinggg that honestly, nourished my soul. I chased that feeling to move and be in my body. Then a text came while on the bus, I didn’t quite fully process it and said I was available for the date (I actually thought it was a client at taken in Orchard Road, Singapore by @mlrockstar
