THIS WEDNESDAY

TriOblique + simonjazzsax present a recital of the music of John Scofield 🤘

#jazz by @mlukesanders

My job is very cool and I feel grateful that I get to do it.

This is my fourth year teaching at UNI and we may have broken the record for largest population of guitar majors on campus this Fall. I am thankful to the students past and present for helping me build this into the community we have now.

Picture #2 is my barren office wall. I want to fill the space with vinyl sleeves of records that guitarists past and present have released. I always thought Bob Dunn’s wall of old recital posters and programs was an impactful way of communicating to students the history of those who “walked the walk” before. If you are a former UNI guitar studio member who has work I can put up - let me know/send me stuff!!!

I snapped this picture of Mike Conrad’s @uni_jazzstudies Improv 1 class because I was told five of my guitar majors were taking it. If you find teachers gushing about their students annoying… then I’m going to be pretty damn annoying this year 😅

Excited to see what’s in store 😼

We just clipped up a few of our tunes from our July 5th @octopuscollegehill set. Head over to the YouTubes (link in bio) to check out the full videos!!!

📽️ 1: Rag - Bill Frisell
📽️ 2: No Surprises - Radiohead
📽️ 3: Strange Meeting - Bill Frisell

Huge shoutout to @_pwig for taking the time to pair the board audio and edit all the videos together. Ralph is everything right about local music scenes. You don’t need to be a performer to make an impact. EVERYONE has a role to play in their local music communities!!! We are thrilled to have a local establishment like the Octopus, and people in the scene like Ralph and Dave Deibler have helped make our little slice of NE Iowa a more culture-filled place to be.

Next stop - SCO!!!: The Music of @oldmansco featuring our friend Simon Harding on saxophone! Wednesday, Sept. 30th in Bengtson Auditorium: UNI Russell Hall (FREE!!!) by @mlukesanders

Thanks to @helmerguitars and @kaneolesen of @westmusiccedarfalls @westmusiccompany for visiting the UNI guitar studio today to talk about teching, set ups, and music careers! by @mlukesanders

And why not post about another upcoming gig while we’re at it…… by @mlukesanders

A couple of solos on my tune Rejoice at different stops on the road this weekend. It’s been fun to “interpret the room” with these tunes the past few days.
