On August 21,2026...... I gave birth to "April 7,2020" at the @yensafestival .
.
Whew!
This work has been sitting with me for a while. It began from a very personal place, asking questions around identity, intimacy, surrender, self-knowledge, relationship, and transformation - and over time, those questions found a way to influence my practice a bit.

What does transformation feel and look like in the body?
What happens when we have to meet ourselves, spirit, our diff relationships and everything we carry at the same time?

Through Dancehall, Caribbean Folk (dancers are from diff parts of the Caribbean), Contemporary, a splash of lyrical and my developing Moomzel Methodology...
I've been exploring what happens when different movement languages meet - how they can exist beside and with each other, speak with each other and sometimes blur - without losing their essence, their histories...their cultures from which they came.

Yensa gave me the chance to put this body of research into the room as a polished work in progress... Far from complete....Still alive, still breathing, asking more questions and showing me where I need to go next.

To the awesome dancers - @dwauntea @mmadjustyourfocus
@shaiannroach @iam_kayann ... Thank you again for saying yes, giving yourself to the process, being great influences and inspiration. It had to be y'all. 🤞🏽
.
@zahra_abena - thank you for always answering my calls, saying yes, stepping into rehearsals, holding me accountable and giving notes... A big sister and mentor.
.
@build.yourvibe - The man behind the tracks...THANK YOU.
@squiretdot - giving me your time to document a bit of the journey💕
Thank you to everyone who showed up and have support!!
.
@yensafestival - Thank you for the call and of course shout out to the team! 💕✨
.
This is only one chapter.
April 7,2020

A work in progress
A body remembering
A question still unfolding.

Until next time....

We’re so excited to welcome Michael Mortley to WAYO Children’s Festival!

This year, Michael joins Aline Morales to bring movement, rhythm, and play into The Mudlark’s Mother, WAYO’s time-travelling story rooted in The Esplanade’s past.

Together, they’ll take families into the early 1900s, where dance, spoon percussion, and live performance become part of the maze-like festival path.

Michael Mortley brings his work as a dancer, movement artist, storyteller, and educator into this special stop, helping young audiences feel the story through their bodies.

WAYO runs from August 12 to 16 for children under 12 and families. Tickets are $5 and spots are limited. Get yours through the link in the bio!

August 12, 13 & 14: 4:30 PM, 5:00 PM, 5:30 PM, 6:00 PM
