Last week I was lucky enough to have an article published by @mixmaganz The piece titled “Hiko: 'Creating Māori oases in a concrete desert” details the conceptual basis and key moments of electronic music’s newest Māori movement.

From the pioneering work of our global superstar @ladyshaka and our musical North Star @mokotron ; to the producers who are taking up the mantle and pushing the boundaries of what music can and should be.

In a neo-libreal hellscape that rewards formulaic slop, Hiko offers a reprieve born from pure creativity. Music that is and could only be from here; created by humans for humans.

I feel extremely lucky to have been trusted to write about what is undoubtedly a historic moment in our music history.

I want to thank @mokotron , @geneva_am and @akceptdub for trusting me with their whakaaro.

@hi.jackcolquhoun for his excitement, guidance and willingness over the writing process.

@lewchiha for being a sounding board.

And, @rachel__ashby for giving me the initial nudge to send the pitch off.

I would love for you to read the piece on Mixmag’s website. And, while you're surfing the web, please remember to enrol to vote!

Rosetta from @95bfm_breakfast and Nicholas from @95bfm_drive have teamed up and are bringing Co-Governance to the bRave!

Founded under principles of protection, partnership, and participation and guided by the wairua of collaboration and kotahitanga, Co-Governance is the bass-driven cultural exchange designed for dancefloors under National-ACT-NZ-First fuckery. Tutored via record stores (Flying Out) and community radio (95bFM), and observers of attacks on te Titiri, trickle-down economic failures, and divisive populist politics, Co-Governance channels imported and native sonic taonga alike. Percussive textures, left field rhythms and sub-terrainean bass. Envision a post-colonial future, witness Co-Governance.

General Admission is on sale now via UTR.
