Bringing my parents to Hawaii for their very first time has been such a deeply meaningful experience. Watching them take in the beauty of these islands experiencing the rich history, the incredible food, the culture, and true island hospitality—reminds me of the true meaning of ohana. Waking up here, surrounded by the people who raised me and realizing how precious every single breath is, has made this trip unforgettable.
(My dad mentioned he hasn’t swum in the ocean since we were little kids.)
Our parents have survived things I could never imagine going through. More than anything, I pray they find peace and happiness within themselves, and that they can find joy in the little things in life.

This journey has also tugged at my heartstrings in a way I wasn’t prepared for. While here in paradise, I received the devastating news that my friend Chad passed away. Chad, you were an angel whose kindness, humor, and spirit helped so many, including myself. Living freely in memory of you.

Rest in peace, Chad. You will be missed.
