Allegedly, there’s a mixtape by a girl from Norfeast (not to be confused with ‘Northeast’) DC who moved to Glenarden, MD for a few years as a teen. Perhaps, while there, she cut a mixtape to Alchemist beats at 22, and called it Hot 22. Perhaps that girl was also raised on the lyrics of a wiser, earthy-aesthetic big sister named Erykah. Maybe that girl I mentioned earlier went on to write poetry, rhymes, and eventually sci-fi. Maybe her best friend that lived in the apartment above her in Glenarden used to knock on the floor in code to invite her to sit in her bedroom and listen to Badu, Three Six, Talib, Trina, and Lil Kim as they cut the back pockets off their Parasuco jeans and turned them upside down and added straps to make jean bras to wear to go-gos to hear versions of their fave artists’ songs. Maybe 20 years later those two friends sat in box seats at the Wolftrap, listening to a few artists who shaped them, all while talking and laughing and dancing and sighing at the way time flies. I’m rambling, y’all. Honestly? I forgot the sound on the last post and I just want this to live on my feed. 🙏🏽 by @mmmshai

Life lately. Writing exciting things. Amped for NYCC and BACE this fall. Enjoying all the love I’ve recieved this ♍️ szn so far. I kept up with my creative projects and gym schedule, but I also vowed to have a summer full of boat rides, festivals, outings with friends, and quiet periods to read through my comic book stacks and the pile of novels by my bed. So, that’s what I did. Come on, September. I’m ready. 🙏🏽 by @mmmshai

Enjoyed a weekend of reading, rest, dance, friends, food, and sunshine. I love festival season. Also, I love that some people scrutinize me so closely on here. I hope my joy brings them joy. As for me, I’m more of a doer than a watcher, myself. #juneteenth #dc #baltimore #afram by @mmmshai
