The Buholi Barong.

Buholi means “to tie.”

I’ve always been fascinated by knots. There’s something beautiful about the process of tying how one simple string can become something strong, functional, or artistic depending on how you shape it.

Years ago, when I was a volunteer rescuer with the Red Cross, one of the first things our coaches taught us was how to tie different kinds of knots. I remember being amazed that a single rope could have countless purposes just by changing the way it was tied.

That lesson stayed with me.

In many ways, I see myself in those knots.

I’ve never been clinically diagnosed with ADHD, but I’ve always noticed that my mind is constantly moving. I rarely focus on just one thing. I love creating, building, learning, and exploring different passions all at once.

Some people see that as being all over the place.

I see it as being connected.

Just like a knot, every experience in my life has tied into the next. Being a registered nurse, a creative, a photographer, an entrepreneur, and now a fashion designer—they’re not separate identities. They’re all connected, woven together into who I am.

The Buholi Barong is a reminder that you don’t have to choose just one path. Sometimes, the most beautiful things are created by tying together every part of yourself.

Every knot tells a story.

This one tells mine.

The Sampaguita Barong.

This piece is the most personal design in my first collection.

It’s inspired by my Lola’s favorite flower the sampaguita.

Growing up, I would go to the market with her every Sunday. For some reason, she never left without buying a small string of sampaguita. One day I asked her why, and she simply smiled and said she loved its scent, its delicate petals, and how something so small could make an ordinary day feel a little more beautiful.

Back then, I didn’t fully understand what she meant.

Now I do.

Every time I smell sampaguita, I’m reminded of those quiet Sunday mornings, holding her hand as we walked through the market. Those are memories I’ll always carry with me.

I miss my Lola every single day, so for my very first collection, I wanted a piece of her to live on through my work.

The Sampaguita Barong is more than just clothing. It’s a love letter to my Lola, to the memories we shared, and to the beauty of finding inspiration in the simplest things.

I hope that when you wear this piece, you carry a story with you too.

MNGTO.

MNG.TO comes from my last name. A small name with a very big dream.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. Growing up in a family rooted in the medical field, I never really had the chance to formally study fashion or pursue it the way I wanted to. Life simply took me in a different direction.

Years later, after building my career and exploring different creative side quests, I realized it was finally time to invest in one of my biggest passion projects.

That’s how MNGTO was born.

The idea came to me during my trip to Vietnam. I admired how people effortlessly incorporated elements of their national dress into their everyday modern style. It made me wonder, why can’t we do the same in the Philippines?

Our culture is beautiful. Our textiles, silhouettes, and traditions deserve to be worn beyond special occasions.

MNGTO is my interpretation of Filipino fashion modern, wearable, and proudly rooted in our culture. Every collection will tell a story, celebrate craftsmanship, and hopefully inspire more people to wear Filipino with pride.

This is just the beginning.
