this collab was a dream. @vvmbeauty is a wizard with makeup on brown skin. I never imagined myself feeling beautiful in pink tones but this master of colour theory made it work!! and the hair! @vangm_styles is an artist in many ways but her expertise on textured hair shines through here. she meticulously made sure she did justice to every single one of my curls. you are in good hands with these queens 👑 by @mniskhte

Today’s #bannedbook is Looking for Alaska by @johngreenwritesbooks ! I wanted to do this book and The Perks of Being A Wallflower back to back because these two titles were tied for the #5 most banned book in the United States in 2022. This book was huge when I was in high school and it helped shape me as a reader and as a children’s librarian. #BannedBooksWeek #libraries #librarian by @mniskhte

Welcome to Day 1 of #bannedbooksweek ! I remember this book being a favourite in middle school. Three things I couldn’t fit in the video: yes, this book contains 2SLGBT+ characters, yes, that continues to be a factor in its banning, and yes, there was a HUGE uptick in bans and challenges after the movie adaptation was released, as was the case with Jay Asher’s 13 Reasons Why. If the harder parts of this story resonate with you, please know you’re not alone and there is help available. A year ago today, I walked into the library as a librarian for the first time, completely unaware of how deeply I would fall in love with my profession. This year has lapsed in a flash and it has been one of falling in love perennially, with both the new and the familiar. I never anticipated that the joy and humility of children’s librarianship would change me so profoundly and I can say without a speck of hyperbole that this past year has been the happiest of my life. The mentors, friends, and colleagues who walked with me on this journey have shaped the way I see the world and I am overflowing with gratitude. Cheers to my one year anniversary of what I hope is a lifelong love affair 🎉 by @mniskhte
