Another MNML Neocon, another birthday. The evening was perfect, and Mother Nature even took a break and provided a dry, cool evening in the middle of a blistering hot and torrentially rainy week. Thank you to everyone who supported the event! And to Zeeshan for the Etsy Witch no-rain spell he was thoughtful enough to order. by @mnml1

Tonight. A glimpse behind the curtain.

From our work on the fastest-selling machine in Nespresso history (maybe thanks to Dua) to the evolving design language of Bose. From new experiments in large-scale 3D concrete fabrication with Mangrove to permanent public objects and gathering spaces designed to outlive trends.

Different industries.
Different materials.
Same question:

How do we create experiences that bring people together? How can design create moments of connection… from the object in your hand to the spaces where people gather.

Thanks to Extremis, Mangrove, Advanced Design, DJ Tommaso from Firenze, and everyone helping make tonight happen.

Rain or shine.

The best designs are still tools for togetherness.

Just back from Tijuana hanging on my favorite San Diego beach… thinking about the future… by @mnml1

Exploring the intersection of ancient geometry and additive manufacturing. This concept for @sohohouse Al Bastakiya started with an exploration of 3D-printed concrete breeze blocks using a new to the world ptocess. By utilizing 3D printing, we can achieve these hyper-intricate, structural mashrabiya patterns in authentic sand-like surface quality and geometry that were once nearly impossible to cast. This enables a facade that breathes, filters the Dubai sun into cinematic shadows, and honors the historic Al Fahidi district through a modern lens.

After witnessing this additive process, that felt like an architectural dig discovering ancient objects from a more advanced time, I’m excited to see what we can create.

A little March Madness iPad + Vizcom exploration while watching Wolverines and Illini dominate. Hadn’t used Vizcom Workbench (been too busy) but they gave the studio a demo and finally got around to testing it. Having just committed to #vanlife with a mobile MNML studio I had slippers and mules on the mind anyways. Love my Adidas monostrap slides so decided to make a Adi Shell Toe phylon mule as the test subject. Have to admit it was super simple and you have a lot more control than you previously had. While the output isn’t exactly what my intent was with V-shaped grooves between the Adi midfoot straps I think you could easily get there. This was one attempt. The fact that I’d got the cup sole stitching was actually surprising. And the shell toe micro surface texture. By far enough to communicate the concept and that’s what early stages of design is about.

The other sawtooth sketch was to see if it would adapt to a non-typical design since some AI are best at product typologies they are trained on. It seems to get pretty close to the sketch and even inserted a mold flash line at the base of the midsole.

Maybe this was in total 30-40min accounting for learning curve.

I’m starting 2026 imagining/manifesting my Craft Collective Commune, a modern village for people I love (and the dogs). A different answer to the way we’re told to age: alone, separated, quietly shrinking our lives.

The inspiration is the contrast: old materials and real craft… stone, wood, honest textures, paired with clean, modern forms and light. It balances the familiar and the exciting, memory and the unknown. Timeless, not trendy, because craft ages well, and most stereotypical, derivative, and formulaic “modern” houses tend to date themselves fast.

This is the opposite of isolation our society forces you into at a certain age. A crafted physical environment paired with intentional “programming”… wellness, shared meals, creative making, nature, movement, learning, light caregiving… so aging becomes something we shape together, not something that happens to us.

And we’re living in a moment where the support side can be radically better than it used to be: discreet monitoring, preventive care, telehealth, smart safety systems, and services that help you stay independent longer without feeling “managed.” Pair that with Blue Zone-inspired nutrition and real longevity protocols… high-quality food, strength and mobility, sleep, stress reduction, sauna + red light, frequency + bioresonance, time outdoors… and you can stack the odds in your favor.

Because “longevity” isn’t just living longer. It’s living more fully and more healthily in the time you have. Less chronic illness, less slow decline driven by poor food quality, environmental toxins, and the default systems we’re all swimming in.

After going through hospice a couple times. Watching family members decline, and seeing the limited options on the table, it’s been sitting with me. There has to be a better way. We’re all headed there, and almost everyone I talk to nods the same way: we want an alternative.

So maybe that’s what I focus on… designing a playbook for aging well that others can add to, adapt, and build on. Not just a place, but a system. Gluing all the parts together.
