POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Moodvideo, “The Eternal Summer”
For my AMFI STUDIO project.

The Eternal Summer is about the regaining of memories, once thought to be lost to time.
How senses can help regain that what seemingly had vanished. The scent of flowers pressed ages ago, can bring one back to relive the beautiful event which they were once used for.

Alongside that, it is also about getting stuck trying to return to something that no longer is. How clinging onto nostalgia can have a downside. After all, no matter how much time is spent on chasing the ideal memories, reality will always catch up to you.

And a warm, comforting summer will always transform into a cold, harsh winter.

-

These two looks are part of a capsule F/W collection I designed for STUDIO at AMFI @amfinl
We had to do extensive research into @maisonmargiela this SEM, so of course, they have been the main inspiration for this project!

I'm just absolutely in love with these.
I hope my work speaks for itself, so I will not be putting too much of a caption under this one.

Two pictures taken inside the ruin, both perfectly encapsulating the romantic, dark vision I had in mind for this shoot. The first photo beautifully highlights the falling collar I made. The whole dress is designed and made by me!

Thank you all for following this project! This concludes the illustrating and designing proces, leading up to making my final design. The final garment has been done since June. However, I had a photoshoot for it this month. I will be posting the results around the end of the month or the beginning of September. So stay tuned...

Some pictures of my toile during the making of. The finished product can be seen on the third picture. I had loads of fun with creating the corset, which turned ou5 to be harder to make than I expected. For a toile, I'm quite proud with how it turned out. Unfortunately the fabric for the final product was too pricey for me to make the toile out of it. So this one is made out of calico! by @mnoomen.designs

Another chronologically backwards entry: This time it's about my final line-up of six looks I made for this concept. In the second two pictures, you can see explanations for the posing and garments. However, because I wrote it down in Dutch, I will give a short summary in English. Going from left to right, we start of with a very flamboyant, overdressed and confident person. Someone who has a massive blindfold, almost covering their face. Indicating that they still strongly believe in the status their garment holds. The second model still falls under this catagory, but is only slightly less overdressed. In the middle, we have two models, still holding on to the illusion, but clearly questioning themselves. The hair of one of them even returning to it's natural black colour. Our second to last model is devestated by the loss of belief in status. Clinging onto the collar that is falling of their shoulders for dear life. The last model is hanging by a thread and has clearly lost the belief that their clothing holds any status. It's also a representation of how buildings that used to have alot of status, can get abandoned and fall into dissaray if no one comes to look after it. The fall of something which was once great.

This is how the final concept board ended up looking. The title: "Illusionary Status". Stands for the illusionary nature of status through clothing. Within different cultures, there are different garments that signify status. "One man's treasure, is another man's trash." What is seen as highly fashionable by one group of people, can be seen as weird or ugly by the other. And yet it still holds status for the first group, because they believe in it. The croqcuis I have drawn for this project are also male for a reason. They may look really feminine, but they are meant to represent the feminine fashion worn by Western European men back in the 16th and 17th century. How come we look back at paintings of those men and see them for the status they had, but if some male celebrity were to wear this today, they would probably be ridiculed by loads of people?

This entry is chronologically speaking backwards. I started out with the designs on the last two pages, then went on to design some other pieces. I was very satisfied with my first 4 designs made for this concept. The middle 6, I was not happy with. Luckily I still had 5 to make. And after applying my favorite aspects of the first four and scrapping my least favorite aspects of the middle 6. I came to these pieces. Me being me, the final line-up of 6 is still different to these designs in a certain sense. I also ended up adding a storyline to everything, more on that later. by @mnoomen.designs

After making the mock-ups for the "status suffocates" concept designs, I realised I wanted to clightly alter the concept. This is, because we had to deliver a line-up of six unique looks that fit the concept. With the skills I had at that moment, it would not be easy to excecute any of the final looks I probably would have come up with. I also wanted to do something a bit more sophisticated and less harsh. Thus, I went with the optical waist illusion, created by having different coloured corset pieces. In this entry you can also find fabric manipulations, draping experiments and research on optical illusions in high fashion. by @mnoomen.designs

Second design toile, still held together by pins, the ruffle collar is held together by thread. This day, I found out how much fabric this type of collar costs🥲. by @mnoomen.designs
