When I first started using AI, I thought it was supposed to “just know.”
I’d type in a prompt, sit back, and expect it to spit out exactly what I imagined. But the truth? My outputs looked like a hot mess. Distorted images. Robotic captions. Videos I couldn’t use. I was frustrated. Here’s what I learned (the hard way):

It’s just math. Every word, pixel, or frame you get from AI is a probability — the most likely combination based on all the data it was trained on. That’s why when your prompt is too vague, AI plays a guessing game… and the result looks random.

One of the main reasons I teach women of color (and others) AI is because we’re severely underrepresented in AI training data. Our features. Our aesthetics. Our hair. When I first started prompting image generators, I’d get back versions of my face with European features. Over and over. It took me sitting down, studying, and training it—figuring out which words gave me the results I wanted without distortion. It was a challenge, but like anything I face in life… challenge accepted! This image (that I turned into video) was trained on photos from my “fit” days 😂. I’m almost back to that exact body type—just waiting on my stomach to catch up 😩. Meta, meta, META!!!! They intentionally limit your reach. It’s even more severe when you switch to professional mode, as their goal is to push you towards paid ads and boosted posts. In short, you need visibility for your business and they need money to keep the platform “free” and profitable. Ads are King on social media. You can grow organically, but that’s exactly why they limit you. Only a small fraction of your own followers can see your posts, and it’s usually those who engage with you frequently.
