From a little kid dreaming of being a comedian at ten years old, to the first Arab American comedian to headline Radio City Music Hall. And you sold it out, NYC. An electric, joyous night filled with so much love. An incredible night for the culture. 🍉

Thank you to my fam for taking the stage @ramy @rosebudbaker @shanemgillis @ciphasounds @djladys @anees.

Extra special thanks to @jonstewart and Dave Chappelle for making this night unforgettable. Love you beyond words.

Mo Amer was 17 when a club veteran dragged him off a Houston stage and told him it would take twenty years to become an overnight success. The kid from Kuwait took the deal.

He toured the world without a passport for a decade and stood his ground in the American South after 9/11, clocking the industry’s oldest rule along the way. “When art meets commerce, it becomes entertainment.” He has spent his career declining to become the merchandise.

He has been turning comedy clubs into living rooms for more than 20 years, where a stranger becomes a cousin and laughter sits beside grief without either asking the other to leave.

His best review came from a Palestinian man restocking crisps in a New York shop, who saw him and burst into tears. “That’s my Oscar.”

“I don’t see them as fans. I see them as my family. Unless they ask for money.”

What joy looks like now is simpler than it was at 17. “It looks like collectivity. A communal effort. Build it and they shall come.”

“Before there was a road, I paved it so that other people can walk on it.”

He headlines Radio City Music Hall on Friday. “I led with my heart.”
