We’ve had some beautiful clear nights out at @mangamaunu.retreat recently ✨

Our Mangamaunu stargazing tours run every Monday and Tuesday night, giving guests the chance to explore the night sky from this incredible spot just north of Kaikōura.

One of our favourite parts of running these tours is watching people experience the night sky together — families, friends, couples, travellers who met that day, and people ticking something off the bucket list.

There’s something pretty special about standing in the dark, phones forgotten, looking up at the same sky together. ❤️

School Holiday Fun at Moana Skies! 🚀

The school holidays are in full flow, the days are getting longer, and summer is starting to feel a whole lot closer!

We’ll be running our solar tours daily throughout the holidays, weather allowing, giving you the chance to safely get an up-close look at our closest star through our specialist solar equipment. 🔭☀️

And there’s heaps for the kids to get stuck into too — space activities, things to discover, telescopes to explore and plenty to keep curious young astronomers busy.

Whether you’re a local looking for something different to do these holidays or visiting Kaikōura with the family, come down to the Moana Skies Astronomy Centre and spend some time exploring the universe with us. 🌌

✨ A week under the stars at Fyffe House! ✨

Last week was amazing! We’ve loved welcoming guests to the beautiful historic Fyffe House for some unforgettable evenings exploring the night sky.

From incredible views of the Milky Way to discovering distant wonders through our telescopes, there’s something pretty special about sharing the universe from such an iconic Kaikōura location. 🌌

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this week. We hope you enjoyed the experience as much as we loved hosting you! ❤️

⏰ A little reminder: With daylight saving starting this Sunday, our stargazing tours will return to an 8:30pm start as we wait a little longer for the night sky to arrive.

Over the past week, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting a number of our stargazing tours out at @mangamaunu.retreat and it’s been such a special spot to share the night sky from. ❤️

Away from the lights, surrounded by the mountains and coastline, it gives our guests an incredible setting to slow down, look up and experience just how spectacular the skies in @kaikouranz can be! 🌌

School Holiday Family Space Weekend! 🪐🚀🧑‍🚀

Life is expensive at the moment, especially for parents… with that being said, We’ve got the first weekend of the school holidays covered without costing you an arm and a leg!

On Friday 25 September, families can join us for a special kids focused evening of stargazing under Kaikōura’s dark skies. 🌌

Then on Saturday 26 September, we’ll be over at our Moana Skies Astronomy Centre with a bunch of kid-focused space activities, games, challenges, telescope viewing, solar observing, space trivia and hands-on astronomy. 🎉

The Saturday session is designed to be fun and interactive for the kids — this is not just our standard stargazing tour spread over two days.

- Questions
and plenty of chances for kids to get properly involved.

A little update from us as we head into spring 🌌

From later this month, our Explore the Cosmos Stargazing Experience will be increasing from $109 to $129 per adult.

At the same time, we’re also introducing a new Under 16s rate of $109, helping keep the experience accessible for families while we continue to grow and invest in what we offer here at Moana Skies.

We’ll also now be able to welcome up to 10 guests per tour, while still keeping the small-group feel that’s always been so important to us.

For the next two weeks, you can still book at our current adult rate of $109, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us under the Kaikōura sky, now’s a great time to lock it in ✨

New pricing:

Adults — $129
Under 16s — $109
Any bookings already made will of course remain at the original rate.
