They wanted the freedom to party. The state saw them as the enemy within. The untold story of the largest ever illegal rave, Castlemorton, the Criminal Justice Bill and the free party movement.

This feature documentary film shows the true underground origins of the international Rave and Festival scenes starting off in tiny fields in the British countryside and spreading around the world!

@van_dyke_browne has been running record shops in London and East Anglia for the past decade+. active behind the decks at various forest + squat parties, additionally playing in many ambient/ room2 situations at various venues and festivals throughout the UK and beyond. This weekend he will be connecting dots that inspired the origins of the freetekno sound, between ambient, dub, psych, trance and electronic experiments from the 60's onwards.

In a time when workers were striking and police repression was rising, a new generation of travellers left their homes in search of community, freedom, and new ways of living in 1990s Britain.

Spiral Tribe @sp23official emerged from the waste pipe of that British society, in a world in desperate need of community, they where there to fill that void.
They no longer looked at music as a consumer product , but a collective effort for something greater , a tool to use at the service of a greater collective effort , the rave.
Sebastian @69db_liveset was there, witnessing and shaping one of the most radical chapters of British cultural history.

A member of the Spiral Tribe Sound System from 1991 onwards and co-founder of the original SP23 studio, he will perform under his project @wavearising an exploration of the inner self through movement and sound textures.
Expect a fully improvised live set that invites the body into motion through polyrhythmic patterns and deep sub frequencies , a unique and immersive experience

Seb will also be the guest speaker for our very first M.O.B talk.
There is no better person to begin this journey with as his and his crew story , resonate deeply with us.

xàr num (b.1993) is a sound artist and curator based in northern Italy.

Alongside studies in aesthetic philosophy and sound design, for more than ten years he had been active in sound production, archival research and philosophical enquiry in Macao, gone-but-not-forgotten squat center for experimental art practices in Milan. Here he started collaborative projects in the realm of electronic music (Cortex of light, primordial OOze, FuocoFatuo among others) while co-curating different publishing platforms and hosting forward-thinking music events across the continent (A.R.X., Communion, Saturnalia). He also had been involved over time in many collaborations with contemporary art institutions, festivals and radios such as MK&G Hamburg, Museo della Permanente, Positive Education, Nyege Nyege, Nextones, Jazz Is Dead, NTS, Kiosk, Mutant Radio.

xàr num is a continuous exploration on the infinite manifolds of perception through its physical and semantic manipulation (i.e. spectral graffiti), belief systems hacking practices (i.e. spirit design) and the articulation of non- linear strategies for surviving the accelerated world. Showcasing its thousand shades in the most disparate contexts including but not limited to: underground clubs, art galleries, physical and non-physical radio booths, riversides and forests, abandoned buildings, dream scenarios, phantom raves and countless other realms. Superimposing ancient echoes and flash-forward insights, his sonic language is as various as the moments by whom it’s inspired, always lingering at the threshold of disappearance: from ecstatic drifts beyond the wall of sleep to storms of percussions and noises spiralling close to the speed of light.

bones tan jones @bonestanjones (b.93 Liverpool) is a queer heretic whose work traverses materials, disciplines and time lines.
raised in a church choir in the northwest of the UK, on the borderlands of mythical Wales and enchanted England, tan jones’s work has ne'er strayed far from the ecclesiastic rituals of worship, only in tan jones’s world, the church has been burnt, the yew trees thrive in the ashes, and god is trans.
bones tan jones presents their living praxis ‘optimystic dystopia’ as a spiritual practice. an eternal storyteller, alternative realities are explored through alter egos, retellings of ancient Chinese and Celtic mythologies through creating;
symphonies/operas/psalms/triptychs/sigils/stele/installations/interventions/inter-active workshops.

M.O.B celebrates 9 years of existence this coming bank holiday weekend.

Our story is one that is deeply rooted in rave culture, a movement that transformed the very fabric of society in this country and elsewhere. Rave was birthed at the intersection of the socio-political upheaval brought by digitalisation, the economic decay of post industrial-cities and the affirmation of queer and marginalised communities.

Behind the emergence of this phenomenon in the UK is sound system culture which was pioneered by Black communities across the country. Shunned and rejected from places of leisure and entertainment, they "seized the means of production" of music and arts and gave themselves the ability to socialise and express themselves, inspiring a generation of young people to do the same. Thus was born the legendary sound system: Spiral Tribe.

Our guest for this event is 69db, a prominent member of Spiral Tribe and an early proponent of live electronic performances in raves. Spiral Tribe and 69db are the root of much of what exists in the rave scene today, so what better way to celebrate our anniversary than by highlighting this inspirational figure.

Joining @69db_liveset for this event is a fittingly live-heavy bill of amazing performers: xár num, the live alias of Primordial Ooze - @ppsychic.nomad one third of the Cortex of Light project / @bonestanjones , stunning vocalist + live electronic act and body performer / @van_dyke_browne , the DJ moniker of the person behind @vinyl__hunter record shop / 27 Eggs, the live jam act by our three M.O.Bsters Ab Ru @abrulibula , Bubble People @jasper_drifts and Max Burstyn @maxburstyn .

There is no bar at REinsTATE (Part 1) - so the good news is, you can bring whatever drinks you desire with you! There is an Off-License around the corner (search "DRINKPLUS") where you can stock up if needed. We will allow exit and reentry into the venue.

We couldn’t organise a daytime event from and not have food for our community!

We are delighted to welcome back the lovely people at @springgardenlondon who provided the food at our church event last year!

Spring Cafe, in their own words:

“Rediscovering and reconnecting with nature, allows us to revive an instinctual ancient knowledge and dependence on the natural world that predates our human existence.”

Spring Cafe was founded in 2021 in Abbey Gardens. They offer vibrant seasonal dishes crafted from locally sourced garden-fresh produce. Their focus is to provide simple yet delicious meals, prepared where possible with local organic ingredients, infusing each humble dish with rich and culturally inspired flavours reflective of our diverse city.

In collaboration with Abbey Gardens, Spring Cafe hosts regular gardening workshops, educational and creative activities and events with the aim to teach local people to grow their own foods and learn about the natural world focusing on health, wellbeing and unity.
