Bronx • mixed breed • look at this stud! 🤍

Bronx’s mom absolutely adores him (which is always my favorite kind of client!) and sought help from FL Vet Behavior and myself when Bronx started showing aggression in certain situations.

It’s super important to advocate for your dog, especially in situations when they are meeting new people or guests are coming over! 🏡

Because Bronx is so cute, everyone thinks it’s ok to pet him but we have to feel comfortable saying “please don’t pet my dog” 🙂

Getting a DO NOT PET patch for their harness is a great way to advocate this as well!

Rocky • husky mix • Rocky is the most beautiful boy inside and out 🤍

Because of negative veterinary experiences, Rocky has a very tough time at the vet! We are working on muzzle training and cooperative care handling to help him 🩺

And working on restructuring his days to allow him more physical/mental stimulation and freedom, in exchange for not eating mom + dad’s baseboards!

We’ve already made some great progress and I can’t wait to keep helping Rocky and his super dedicated parents alongside @drlisaradosta 🤍🐾

Thane • mixed breed • recently adopted from @humanebroward 🐾

I love working with recently adopted dogs! Sometimes those first few weeks can be the most challenging for you and your new rescue because of unknown histories and previous experiences the dog has had.

It can be super helpful to do a session with a certified positive trainer right away to help! 🤍

Thane is the sweetest guy EVER! We are working on jumping, barking, and separation anxiety. I am so happy he has found his forever home and can’t thank @humanebroward enough for rescuing this guy! 🤍🐾

Luna • husky • I loved working with this beautiful puppy girl! 🐾🤍

Her dad reached out after a vet referral because Luna had growled and lunged when dad approached her food bowl. We call this resource guarding or possessive aggression.

While resource guarding is *completely normal* for all dogs, with some dogs it can escalate quickly so dad did the right thing by seeking a certified R+ trainer to help!

Here’s some starter tips to follow:

• never mess with your dog’s food or bother them when they’re eating - there is no need to pet them (do you want to be touched when enjoying a meal?)

• to create a positive association with you walking near their food bowl, you can toss treats into their bowl while walking past

• only give your dogs items (bones, chews, etc) that you don’t need to take away until they’ve chosen to walk away and are done with it. Make sure they have a safe place to enjoy those yummy things without being disturbed 🦴

• if you ever need to take something away, always trade up ☝🏼 for something more valuable

• with all things - LEARN DOG BODY LANGUAGE to recognize early signs and be able to train/manage in an appropriate way 🐕

Honey • dachshund • this little girl’s name is perfect because she is sooooo sweet! 🍯

Our main focus with Honey was to evaluate different situations she was barking in and come up with solutions where Honey could still express herself (as barking is a form of normal dog communication), but not carry on to the point of getting herself stressed 🗣️

One of my favorite accounts @bravodogtraining just did a great post on barking - check it out!

A couple valuable quotes from it:
• “Dogs were bred to alert their people, it’s a natural behavior.”
• “Suppressing barking through bark collars is very dangerous.”
• “it’s important to find out what your dog is communicating or if anything underlying is contributing for excessive vocalization (anxiety, separation issues, fear”

Bailee • lab • this perfect girl was rescued from @lrrof_sfl ! She was so much fun to work with and such a good puppy at 6 months old! 🤍🐾

Our focuses for Bailee are to create a positive association with her crate, separation training so she can be fully relaxed when her family leaves the house, and finalizing potty training!

It’s super helpful when working with separation related behaviors to have a camera set up so we can watch your dog’s behavior when you’re not home! This is crucial data if we want to help them feel comfortable and relaxed 🐾

Mars & Zola • our main focus with these two amazing pups is to integrate a new dog into their home!

This can be a slow process and it’s a great idea to work with a certified force free trainer when doing this to make sure we are doing everything properly to set the dogs up for success! As well as keeping everyone safe and comfortable 🤍

Mars was quick to warm up to their new friend and Zola is still unsure, but getting deli meat when he’s close by (separated by a fence) sure does help sway her opinion 🥓

I can’t wait to see all the pups again this week to keep on building their relationship 🐾🤍

Roxie • rottweiler • the focus of our session with this tiny perfect angel girl was NIPPING! Roxie’s parents compared her to Jaws before our session 🦈

Typically I get asked “what do I do after my puppy nips me?”

The question we should be asking is “how do I set my puppy up for success so they don’t nip me?”

This is taking a PROACTIVE approach rather than REACTIVE 🤔

I love to ask clients “what does a typical day look like for your puppy?” so we can assess how to better plan their days, or what to add/remove/switch up to make sure they’re getting enough rest and enough mental and physical stimulation as well 🦴💤

Roscoe • australian cattle dog • this handsome boy is true to his breed! Our session focused on aggression towards his dog housemate, specifically around mom’s attention.

This can be common in multi-dog households so it’s important to have management in place to avoid fights 🐾

While not all dogs of the same breed are the same (all dogs are individuals), it’s important to know the traits of your dog’s breed that can play a role in their behavior 🐕

Australian cattle dogs:
• are energetic and intelligent with an independent streak
• were originally bred to herd by biting, and are known to nip running children
• can form a strong attachment to their owners, and can be protective of them and their possessions

Lola • boston terrier • this little girl is full of so much energy that sometimes she doesn’t know what to do with it!💥

This was leading to biting her mom in seemingly unpredictable scenarios. By talking with mom and mapping out “a day in the life of Lola”, we were able to figure out common scenarios where Lola gets over aroused and work on training and management solutions to prevent bites from happening 🦴

Teaching Lola to relax in a sanctuary room was crucial and having well established routines when coming home from a walk for example have all been super helpful 🐾

Lola’s mom is incredible and my favorite kind of client - understanding, patient, dedicated and just wants what’s best for their dog! 🤍

Air Bud (Buddy) • golden retriever • every Friday needs to end with puppy energy and perfect Buddy is all that + more!! 🤍

We worked on all things puppy! for this angel - focusing on potty training, scheduling to set him up for success, nipping and jumping!

It’s important to have an understanding of age appropriate puppy behaviors and teach your dog how to navigate our world with patience + understanding, all while having fun and bonding with them! 🎾

“Training” should be fun and look fun, not like a strict obedience drill.

Our session had lots of play, lots of treats, and ended with a spoonful of peanut butter, as seen here on his perfect little whiskers 🥰🫶🏽🥜🦴🎾

Yay Buddy!! 🤍🐾
