Abhisarika.

First mentioned in the Natya Shastra, Abhisarika is one of the Ashta Nayikas - a personification of a woman’s moods. Traditionally, she is the one who adorns herself in anticipation of meeting her lover. She ventures out discreetly only to be met with grim forces of nature and societal norms to deter her. However, her persistence and desire win in the end.

The Abhisarikas that we portray, transcend time periods. Even though an evolved society might have freed them from some obstacles, the sense of anticipation and excitement still runs deep. Bolder and unafraid, here is our take on Abhisarika, a Nayika as ageless as time.

Happy to share the trailer for our documentary 'Galiyon Ka Sheher'. Almost 2 years in the making, it’s been one of the most challenging films I've worked on, and is the culmination of a lot of people’s hard work and advice. The documentary explores themes of citizen-state engagement, governance and development, urban land rights, notions of modernity, and socio-cultural dynamics in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

In light of the current political scenario, the documentary feels increasingly relevant and I am pleased to announce that it will be screened online at the @culturecinema21 festival tomorrow.

So give it a watch and do let us know what you think.

Had the pleasure of shooting an episode of @omidiranikhah’s @coffeewithstrangersseries.

The episode is a lovely exploration of some very current and relevant thoughts and is out now on YouTube.

Big thanks to @darthcym for lending me his vintage Zeiss glass.

Shot my first body horror piece a while back and couldn’t have asked for a better team than @rozejczepeda and @ram.wells to do it with. Getting to see @malloryshofi’s prosthetics and effects up close was incredible, and it genuinely made me squeamish operating camera because of how real it looked.

Some BTS from my last post on ‘Siraj Academy’. Safe to say I had fun on the dolly for this one.

A few clips from Siraj Academy, a pilot I shot for @kareems99, directed by @c.g.ganesh

We were fortunate to shoot inside an active mosque which definitely added a to the atmosphere of the film. Since we couldn’t augment the space too much, we leaned into natural light and let timing and camera movement do the work instead.

Shout out to everyone on camera and G&E for making this happen.

Some more stills and BTS from ‘A Man Fate Forgot’

Having @yashbhatnagar_ ‘s 3D pre-vis was invaluable during prep. It gave me a clear read on the tonality he was after, which then freed me up to be precise about exactly what units I’d need to bring it to life. Tight budgets don’t leave room for guesswork, so having that visual reference meant every equipment decision was intentional.

Incredibly proud to share “A Man Fate Forgot,” nominated by @the__asc and @camerimage.festival, which I had the privilege of lighting for @yashbhatnagar_.

We had such a great time bringing this practical set to life, so carefully designed by @lunanaseh. Doing almost all the lighting effects practically gave me real room to push my programming on the @blackoutlightingconsole

These are just a few excerpts from an incredible film!
And shout out to Key Grip @grande_kahuna who was in the trenches on all days and the entire G&E team that pushed us over the line.
