Feeding ration suggestions on commercial dog foods are greatly over inflated to create overweight dogs and sell more food. I've never owned a dog that needed the suggested amount! I keep my dogs lean for health, comfort, joints and longevity. I want to easily feel ribs, spine, hip bones with fingertips through the coat. I keep my dogs lean for health, comfort, joints and longevity. I start joint supplements by 7 years of age. I don't buy large size dog biscuits, even though I've had large dogs for many years. Dogs thrive on clear, consistent rules and boundaries, too much freedom and the need for decision-making can cause our dogs a lot of stress. #healthydogs #newdogparents #newdogowners #dogtrainingforpeople #dogbehaviorsupport by @modardogtraining

Sometimes we practice recalls while we're walking. When he comes to me, we might play with a tug toy or he might get a high value treat like meat or cheese, once in awhile he might get a jackpot, which is many tiny tidbits. When we practice in a safe enclosure, he might get to Chase a treat, we also practice calling him off of a toy. The number one rule is in order to be a REWARD, it must be rewarding to the dog, does not matter what you think! For example a pat on the head is not going to be a high value reward for any dog, however scratching, petting and rubbing may be rewarding to lots of dogs #realworlddogtraining #reliablerecall #trainingwalk #northernbreeddogtraining #dogtrainingforpeople by @modardogtraining

After years of construction, the trail from the neighborhoods to the parks, has finally reopened. Walking in the neighborhood offers lots of opportunities to practice various cues, including on-by, which is essentially a moving 'leave-it' for sled dogs.
