We’re officially In Process for vintage Christmas thanks to @cltlocalvore who had to do some work this year on the main pole of this 70+ year old tree to give it some additional support.

All vintage decorating will likely take longer this year since I’m heavily involved in a project but at least we’ve got the main tree up! 🎄Christmas season is here 🎅🏼

✨This fabtastic neon sign is called a ROTOSPHERE and is one of only a few left in the US. Over 230 were sold in the years between 1960-1971 and now there are 18 left with only 4 functioning. This one, originally from 1963 and commonly called ‘Sputnik’, was refurbed in 2016 and is a #mustsee in all of its vintage atomic majesty in Memphis, TN at @joeswinesmemphis. The sign alone is worth the #ModBRoadTrip to Memphis but there is SO MUCH other Midcentury history there to fill your days, including @ncrmuseum @visitgraceland @sunrecordcompany @staxmuseum and more! I cannot wait to go back- hopefully at some point this year!

We took my Dad’s ‘56 Chevy out last week in honor of what would’ve been his 88th birthday. 🩵
This classic car, which was my Dad’s daily driver in the 1980s, was the single thing that sparked my interest and eventual love of midcentury & vintage decor & style.

This has been a weird and eventful summer and right now I’m just grateful for my wildflower/zinnia farmer husband and these flowers that he left for me this morning. taken in Charlotte, North Carolina by @modbettie

Love to make a quickie stop at @gabesgoodgoods in NODA - so much great vintage & midcentury eye candy at great prices!
These sofas were both amazing (do I need a sofa? No- do I want one? Yes!) and the vintage lighting- sooooo good. Lots of smalls around too-
❓What did I buy? Head to stories! taken in Gabe's Good Goods by @modbettie

Some of the Old New around here lately- we couldn’t resist this pair of vintage ceramic swimmers for the pool

Some of the old new around here lately.

Fab monkey pod bouquet

These are actual drink stirrers that light up from @groggycarol on @ebay

@cltlocalvore revitalized this metal flower and now it lives by the pool

Vintage set up for 1960s movie night- loved that we finally got to use my thrifted midcentury faux alligator cooler that looks like it should be in a Ralph Lauren photo shoot but actually was made by Sears in the 1950’s!

His life is just.so.exhsusting.

Movie Night at the Pool: Dr. GOLDFOOT and the BIKINI MACHINE, 1965, with Vincent Price, Frankie Avalon and the OG bikini machine herself: Susan Hart.
✨Quickie recap: Madcap midcentury satire of James Bond films - with an ascotted cheeky Vincent Price stepping in as the mad scientist Bikini Machine creating villain vs. a hapless Frankie Avalon, who works for the Secret Intelligence Committee as a SIC Man. (You get it, right?) And of course it all ends with a redic car chase. But wait, there’s a sequel: Dr. GOLDFOOT and the Girl Bombs which we also ran as a double feature.
✨Fun fact: Mike Myers got his idea for the girl bots for AUSTIN POWERS from these Bikini Machines. ✨
5/5 stars, silly, fun mid-mod theme viewing and highly rec for pool times! taken in Charlotte, North Carolina by @modbettie

In honor of the record just set in Palm Springs for number of Marilyn impersonators around this iconic statue- and in honor of Marilyn’s birthday today, here we are with FOREVER MARILYN- not dressed liked Monroe. What an opportunity missed! ✨

In case you want the history: Forever Marilyn is a 26-foot-tall sculpture by John Seward Johnson II, depicting Marilyn Monroe in her iconic pose from The Seven Year Itch, with her white dress blowing up from a subway grate & created in 2011. It traveled to various locations before settling in Palm Springs. taken in Palm Springs, California by @modbettie

I love to revisit the previous vintage iterations of all the midcentury spaces-it reminds me of how far we’ve come from when we first bought this 1956 mid century modest ranch in 2012. (Look two posts back for current setup.) Everything has been moved around, painted, refinished, etc. -but most of it has been with us for about 15 years at this point. All sourced from Craigslist or from my time as a blogger for the Restore.
These pics go all the way back to 2016 and starting at pic 4 you can see the original oilcloth on the outdoor vintage set before we had it reupholstered with a similar color outdoor fabric . Look for the rug changes as well before I found the multicolor flowered ones that I rebought twice and now power wash every year to AMAZING results. This also provides proof that l’ve always loved orange! 🍊
There’s also a sweet appearance of our 1st Westie pair- Pearl and Otis. ❤️

👀Things I’m eyeing right now: vintage signs.
This one is from an optical shop. 👓🤓

I had to hang this piece of midcentury goodness in the wrong spot before I found the right one. Does that happen to you? 🤷‍♀️ taken in Charlotte, North Carolina by @modbettie
