Best feelings

the sound of the ocean
before anything else is awake.
morning light falling perfectly across a room.
the first sip of espresso.

fresh linen.
bare feet on cold stone.
the smell of rain
and flowers beginning to open.

a table set long before anyone arrives.
candlelight reflected in a wine glass.
long dinners that turn into late nights.
the quiet just before guests arrive.

old churches in unfamiliar cities.
art that has survived centuries.
a handwritten note.
pearls with nowhere important to go.

the sound of a camera shutter
when you know that was the photograph.
finding beauty in something
everyone else walked past.

hearing a song you had forgotten you loved.
when someone remembers
the smallest detail.

the moon over the water.
the sea when no one else is around.
coming home.

and perhaps best of all
being somewhere beautiful
without needing to capture it,
and the quiet feeling
that something beautiful
is still ahead.

Two months left.

Somewhere between the turning of seasons,
entire worlds can shift quietly within us,
leaving no trace but the person
who arrives on the other side.

Some seasons ask to be understood.
Others simply ask to be lived.

I’ve stopped needing every chapter
to explain itself.

The sea keeps no record
of what it has carried away.
Neither will I.

Perhaps Venus was never born from the sea,
but returned from it
changed by the depths,
arriving at the shore as someone new.

Maybe there are versions of us
that can only be born
after the tide has taken what it came for.

Here’s to what remains,
to what is quietly being born,
and to whatever waits beyond the shore. ♀︎

Wind in my hair, salt on my skin—
this year taught me how to listen inward.

A year of becoming still enough to hear my own voice.
Of shedding old skins, softening edges,
and choosing quiet over noise.
I learned that softness is not weakness,
but a return to myself.

I walked through this season unraveling and reweaving,
letting the ocean witness my pauses,
my release,
my becoming.
Trusting the tide to take what no longer belonged
and leaving space for what was meant to stay.

Growth did not roar this year—
it whispered.
In the wind, in the silence,
in bare feet on earth and heart wide open.

A muse is not made.
She remembers.

🌿 “To the woman who has lost her spark.
To the woman whose get up and go, has well and truly gone.
This is for you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is to remind you, that you don’t have to be everything to everyone, every day.
You didn’t sign up for that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Remember when you used to laugh? Sing? Throw caution to the wind?
Remember when you used to forgive yourself more quickly for not always being perfect.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can get that back again.
You really can.
And that doesn’t have to mean letting people down or walking away.
It just means being kinder to you, feeling brave enough to say no sometimes.
Being brave enough to stop sometimes.
And rest.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It starts the moment you realise that you’re not quite who you used to be. Some of that is good, some of that is not.
There are parts of you that need to be brought back.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if anyone in your life is not okay with that… they are not your people. Your people will be glad to see that spark starting to light up again.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, if you have been slowly fading away my friend, this is the time to start saying yes to things that bring you joy and no to things that don’t.

“Finding yourself” is not really how it works. You aren’t a ten dollar bill in last year’s winter’s coat pocket. You are also not lost.

Your true self is right there, buried under cultural conditioning, other people’s opinions and inaccurate conclusions you drew as a kid that became your beliefs about who you are.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Finding yourself” is actually returning to yourself. An unlearning, an excavation, a remembering who you were before the world got its hands on you. ~ EM

Going into 2019... I made a conscious decision to take a year off @modernmuseliving and focus on other aspects of my life...such as my inner voice, growth, art and needs... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2019 was a year which I loved...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I grew spiritually
I read 13 books ...(proud of myself)
Learned to go with the flow
Worked on my patience (life made me do it)
Practiced meditation
Made peace with some demons
Went back to practicing hot yoga
Bought our first house @adventuringwithamuse and made it a home (working progress)
Learned many new life skills
Focused my energy on those who needed me
Spent a lot of time with my family
Got into gardening (no plants got hurt during this experiment lol)
I made significant changes to my lifestyle
Let it go of everything and everyone who didn’t contribute to my life positively
Learned to take time just for ME (a lot of time)
Nurtured @sucelphotography
Shot my first wedding (best day ever)
Created meaningful memories for so many incredible clients that turned into friends! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2019 was truly a year of such incredible growth!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After a long break from the blogging world and brainstorming on the future of MML, I came to the conclusion that rebranding this little space was a must. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The woman that I am today... is not the same one who founded the MML blog 4 years ago. I’ve grown and evolved so much since my early days as a blogger, and I feel that I have so much more to contribute and share with you guys. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve talked about this in the past and I feel ready to move forward with the full rebranding of Modern Muse Living. I want MML to be a space to embrace, inspire and help women be more connected with themselves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A place where we can encourage one another to be the best version of ourselves, without labels, prejudices or judgment. Hoping you stick around for the journey that’s to come ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
