⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review! Wow Barbara, you did it again. It seems that all of Kingsolver's books are completely different as far as subject matter and I would even say structure. But the one thing that runs through all of her books is her outstanding sentences. She can really inhabit her characters and you in turn also live inside them. This book, Partita, follows a child prodigy pianist, Livia who grows up in Appalachia Tennessee and is one of few in her home town to go to college. Well as the saying goes, we make plans and God laughs.
Livia experiences the highs and what she believes to be the lows in life. We all learn what becomes important when God throws you a curve ball and how we can pivot into a different plan. I loved this book. Did I find myself in this book? Maybe. 🤔 #bookstagram #partita #barbarakingsolver by @modkaren

September Reads: I sampled a couple of Booker nominees and I tried a couple dystopian novels, which is not really my bag. It seems like these world building stories are all so loooong. My thoughts:
Loved:
Switzy, as I age I am fascinated by books about aging characters, plus the structure and writing was great.
All Them Dogs, brutal, but again, the writing was everything.
Where Reasons End, gripping.
The Three Graces of Pearl Street, got to love a story about a good elderly Christian woman and her legacy. Just a good charming book.

Why did I read this book? It's great they said. Five stars they said. I think I heard awesome somewhere. Not for me. It had all the things I do not like, science , science fiction, oh and my lord time travel. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I should have dumped it at the word "portal" and then the worm?!? And it never would end. It's a true door stopper. I was reminded of the right to DNF. I'll use it next time. #bookstagram #noteveryoneisawinner by @modkaren

August Reads. It was another great month for my brain!
Amazing-
Contapposto by David Eggers
Everything was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt by Ben Reeves
All That is Left of Life by Roberta Recchia
Far From the Maddening Crowd by Thomas Hardy (I throw in a Classic from time to time)
Also Great-
A Tender Age by Chang-Rae Lee
Etna by Paul Yoon
Some wonderful literature here. I know there are some great books coming in September and I can’t wait to explore.

How about a little palate cleanser? This is just a delightful book for dog lovers and if you are not a dog lover, there is something wrong with you. It’s a collection of short stories by only the best contemporary authors out there. Think Strout, Yoon, Tan, Garmun, Gay, Picoult, Henry, and more! It is edited by Alice Hoffman and her contributions are fantastic as well. Get it. Read with your dog. Smile. 😊 #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #keepreading by @modkaren
