Three decades of Modlin Arts Presents programming have made clear one conviction: the performing arts are one of the most honest instruments for confronting what it means to be human. Rather than offering an escape from reality, our programming this season reserves a seat for the current state of the human condition. Featuring returning favorites, long-time collaborators, and visionary works, this season captures the thrill of live performance with a diverse array of talent and disciplines.

Our Modlin Arts Presents series celebrates 30 years this season. To mark the occasion and provide something tangible and complimentary for our patrons, we brought the brilliant @brentmccormickdesign into the fold.

Inspired by Reid Miles and the typography-led language of classic Blue Note covers, Brent built our commemorative season poster around a bold 30. When decision time arrived, our team had the impossible task of selecting a colorway—red and deep navy or the tri-color design, as seen here. Why not both? To make good use of the finalists, we’ve opted to keep the red poster version of this design as a Modlin Arts Presents event exclusive.

As you make your way out after a Modlin Arts Presents performance this year, be sure to pick up your red 30th anniversary season poster. We encourage you to share a photo on Instagram of how you end up displaying the poster. Be sure to tag us!   taken in Modlin Center for the Arts by @modlincenter

October is packed with engaging, resonant programming at University of Richmond’s Modlin Center! We’re thrilled to present a performer who recently received the Kronberg Academy’s 2026 Pablo Casals Award and a free family arts day celebrating the vibrant sounds of Afro-Puerto Rican folk music. Swipe for more details and book your tickets with the link in our bio.

Join us on Thursday, October 15, for Gabriela Montero’s recital of Spanish and Spanish-inspired music, where she’ll share rarely performed miniatures composed by the greatest Spanish pianist of the 20th century—the legendary Alicia de Larrocha. We encourage patrons to view the Harnett Museum exhibitions ahead of the performance starting at 6 pm. No additional registration required!

That same evening, we also welcome the Kadencia Orchestra for a Bomba y Plena workshop at the Well-Being Center on campus. Experience the rich, rhythmic dance, and music traditions of Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena. No experience is necessary, simply come to learn and enjoy. Wear comfortable clothing to move in. Percussion instruments provided. Register with the link in our bio!

Our 16th annual Celebration of Dance performance welcomes an exciting group of independent choreographers, student dance clubs, UR dance companies, and guest artists that will light up the stage with a wide range of dance styles.

This event has sold out, though patrons may join the standby line starting one hour prior to curtain at the venue. Unclaimed seats will be distributed 5 minutes before the event begins. We will do our best to welcome as many patrons as possible.

On Sunday, October 18, join the Modlin Center for the Arts and Harnett Museum of Art for our annual Family Arts Day, a celebration featuring the vibrant sounds of Afro-Puerto Rican folk music with Richmond-based Kadencia Orchestra, interactive dance and music workshops, and hands-on arts activities led by University of Richmond students. Free performance with ticket.

When Modlin and Christian McBride selected Brandee Younger Trio to join us for the Christian McBride Jazz Weekend, we did so knowing how lucky we were to bring high caliber talent to Richmond. @harpista was the first Black woman nominated for the Best Instrumental Composition during the 2022 GRAMMYS and had her original composition “Hortense” featured in the Netflix concert documentary “Beyoncé: Homecoming.”

Knowing this, it’s no surprise Brandee has been granted the opportunity of a lifetime: to go on tour with Stevie Wonder. This is a career defining moment and we at Modlin couldn’t be prouder!

Replacing Brandee Younger Trio was a tall order, but Modlin Arts Presents is thrilled to announce Chief Adjuah will be joining us during the Christian McBride Jazz Weekend on October 25!

Chief Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott) is a five-time Grammy nominated musician, composer, producer, storyteller, chieftain, and innovator. His remarkable musical palette stretches jazz’s conventions to encompass a wide spectrum of musical forms and cultures. @chiefadjuahofficial

Modlin’s Chief Adjuah event is a part of @cultureworksrva’s artoberVA initiative, a Pay-What-You-Will event series celebrating the arts and culture throughout the Richmond and Tri-Cities region! At the checkout for this event, you’ll see a few Pay What You Can “PWYC” options in $5 increments starting at $5. taken in Modlin Center for the Arts by @modlincenter

Please join us after the performance for an artist Q&A!
