At the end of May, at @modularsynthriot in @opek.leuven , we had our first real try-out with a few of our tracks.

Our first attempt at giving rouse a live shape.

Somewhere between composition and improvisation,
recognition and mutation,
song and soundscape…

Yes, it felt good.

Here are a few snippets from that first experiment.
You can find the full live set on YouTube now.

A big thank you again to Modular Synth RIOT for giving us the space and opportunity to try this out.
We truly enjoyed this moment. ♡

Since then, rouse has kept taking on different live shapes: a one-hour set at @rumu_______ in Lisbon, a two-hour set at @urgent.fm with @opendexdj, hosted by @personmakes in Ghent, and a very special live ambient set at a private gathering last week.

Every context asks for something different: a different setup, a different duration, a different way of listening and responding.

Sometimes more composed, sometimes more ambient, sometimes drifting much further into improvisation.

And while we are still reinventing ourselves within all these different forms.. trying things out, searching, and finding the shapes that feel most honest to us, we keep discovering that this is exactly where we want to be: creating in relation to each moment, each space, each other.

Maybe that is simply part of what rouse is live:
something that takes shape in relation to the space around it?

Next up, on September 13th, we’ll play among the works and installations of Héloïse Vanderghote / ELOÏ.’s @hellometelo first mixed-media solo exhibition, bringing some of those pieces to life through sound.

Meiboom, Hooglede
3 PM

We hope we can share this moment with you.

With love,

rouse
