Don Draper Didn't Wear a Rolex. He Wore a Memovox.

Don Draper was climbing the corporate ladder in the '50s and '60s. He didn't wear a Rolex.
Back then, Rolex was for adventurers. Divers. Explorers. Men of actual adventures.
Executives wore something different. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox, nicknamed the "Tuxedo."
Small by today's standards. Black outer ring. White dial. Steel case.

What the heck is a California dial? Roman numerals up top, Arabic on the bottom, and a reason behind it that most people don't know.

Tudor turned 100 and brought back the Monarch with this exact dial. A dial most people tie to Rolex. So is it a copy, or is it family?

Before the Apple Watch, there was the Casio CA-53W. Marty McFly wore this calculator watch in Back to the Future, and back in 1985 it was basically the smartwatch. Calculator, alarm, stopwatch, two time zones, and a battery that lasts years. It's still on sale today for under $30.

That bar in the middle of the dial isn't a hand. It's how much power your watch has left. 🤔

The Toughest Man in Hollywood Wore a Seiko 💪🏻
Arnold could've worn any watch. He wore a Seiko.
The H558 was on his wrist in Commando and Predator. Half analog, half digital, chunky and tough. Fans named it "The Arnie." Seiko stopped making it in 1990, collectors kept hunting for it, and in 2019 Seiko brought it back.

Prior to 1995, James Bond never wore an Omega. Even Ian Fleming, the man who created Bond, gave him a Rolex.
Then GoldenEye happened. A costume designer wanted a more modern Bond, remembered he was a Navy man, and called Omega.
The twist? Bond's first Omega ran on a battery.

The watch nobody wanted. Then Steve McQueen picked it off a table full of Rolex, Omega, and Longines.
The Heuer Monaco flopped when it launched in 1969. Square case, blue dial, crown on the wrong side. One appearance in Le Mans and it became a legend.
