This is one way to make a pass 😆🤳
Sharing the single track with @__martinoo._ at the Skyrunning World Championships in Gomera.

Sometimes capturing a memory is worth the extra seconds in the race. Grateful for this one.

The @runeastpeak bandana helped me stay extra cool during this race, highly recommend!

A veces, capturar un recuerdo vale la pena por los segundos extra en la carrera. Agradecido por este momento.

It’s freedom.

Freedom to wake up somewhere I’ve never been.
To cross an island and not know what I’ll find around the next corner.
To say yes to the unknown.
To feel small in a landscape that reminds me how big this world really is.

Now I’m leaving the Canary Islands and heading back into Spain, following the Skyrunner World Series.

Between races, I don’t really know where I’ll end up.

Just saying yes and seeing where it takes me.

La Gomera reminded that there are many ways to measure a good race.

From the opening ceremony to racing alongside some of the best skyrunners in the world, this place and this group of people made the week really special. I’m incredibly proud of Team USA and the way everyone showed up, took on the challenge, and gave everything they had. Finishing fourth as a team is something to be proud of, and it was so fun to watch everyone put their best out there.

Coming into the week, I wasn’t sure how my body would handle another race so soon after how i felt at Kismet. I knew not finishing Kismet was the right decision, but I was still worried my legs wouldn’t come back around after the travel and how they would end up feeling at the VK and 30k.

Friday’s VK was the reality of that concern, but I stayed present and tried to make the most of the opportunity. It was hard.

By Sunday, things came back together for the 30K, and I had an absolute blast. My legs responded and I could shift gears out there.

I raced more conservatively than I normally would and slowly worked my way through the field. It was a really enjoyable way to race, even if it’s probably not the strategy that puts you on the podium at a World Champs race. I loved sharing the trails with the other athletes, encouraging each other along the way, and watching everyone push all the way to the finish.

That’s one of the things I love most about this sport, we get to compete against each other while still wanting to see each other succeed.

Now my sights are set on finishing the Skyrunner World Series strong, with two races left to go on my calendar.

I hope I get to keep watching this sport grow and keep being a part of where it goes next.

Kalie, you are such a badass.

You are a sister in this skyrunning community and we have truly lost one of the best humans in the game.

I loved how you tackled these events head on. You always had such a positive attitude. You were fearless. You went after the things that made you happy and you never seemed afraid to see what you were capable of.

The mountain called for you and you answered.

I wish so badly it would let you go and that you could come back to us.

You are going to be so heavily missed.

I am praying for your family and all of your friends. I hope we can all celebrate Kalie and the way she lived. The way she truly went after the things that brought her joy. The mountains. The running. The adventure. The people around her.

I truly believe your legacy will echo through all the girls who look to challenge themselves in the mountains. The ones who will follow your footsteps and push the limits and show just how strong and powerful women can move through the mountains.

You showed us how strong and powerful women can be in the mountains.

Usually in races, I get caught up in not dropping because quitting early can feel like weakness. But I’ve grown enough in this sport to know it isn’t about proving how tough I am. It’s about celebrating your fitness when you have it, while protecting your body so you can keep living in the sport for years to come.

Yesterday, my body told me it was time to step aside.

Of course, I wanted to race. I wanted to see the whole course and experience that feeling of flying down wet granite. But with a spiked heart rate and heavy legs, I knew pushing through wasn’t the right choice for what’s ahead.

So I brought it back early, rested, and trusted the bigger picture. I’m disappointed with the timing, but proud of myself for listening.

Having family out there cheering me on made it even more special. ❤️

And what a stacked field. It was so cool seeing some seriously zippy runners and new names coming into the US Sky Series. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of them.

Huge congrats to everyone who fought through those conditions and made it to the finish. 🙌🏽

Now it’s time for the Skyrunning World Championships in La Gomera with Team USA. 🇺🇸

This race packs 4,300’ (1,310m) of climbing into 13 miles (20k), and it’s shaping up to be a wet one tomorrow morning.
•
Looking forward to toeing the line with some of America’s finest and seeing what I can find out there.
•
Going to give this one everything I have, stay present, embrace the challenges out on the course, and commit fully to the moment to find out what my body is capable of tomorrow.

Skyrunner World Series on Singletrack:

Morgan Elliot took full advantage of racing on home soil and secured his first win at a major race at last weekend’s Beast of Big Creek on Mount Ellinor - the twelfth stage on the Merrell Skyrunner World Series. After meeting Morgan in person, and cheering him into the finish, I invited him on Singletrack to chat about his approach to racing, to life and what’s next for him on the circuit.

This is episode 351: ‘Home Field Advantage’, with Morgan Elliot, now in your favorite pod player.

The Beast of Big Creek weekend was more than just a race for the Merrell team, it also hosted our team Summit.

One of the biggest highlights was finally meeting the Merrell product development team in person. After spending so much time testing shoes, sharing feedback, and talking through ideas from afar, it was really special to put faces to the people behind it all. Getting to meet more of my Merrell teammates for the first time made the weekend even better.

To come away with the win in front of the people who invest so much in me and believe in what I do made it that much more meaningful. And for the first time in my running career… I finally got to break the tape. I have to admit, I wish more races here in the States did that because it’s such a fun tradition and an unforgettable finish.

A huge thank you to Mathias for creating something so special. His positivity is contagious, and you can tell how much heart he pours into this event. The organization was outstanding from start to finish, and it was refreshing to be part of a race that still feels so grassroots while delivering such a world class experience.

I also want to give a shoutout to the Skyrunning media crew. They spend countless hours traveling, filming, hiking gear up mountains, and putting together the stories that allow all of us to relive these moments. A lot of work happens behind the scenes, and I’m grateful for everything they do for our sport.

Thank you to everyone who made this weekend unforgettable.

Next stop: Kismet in New Hampshire for the US Skyrunning Series Final. See you there.

I honestly didn’t see this one coming.

Somewhere along the way, my body found another gear. I felt peaceful, present (with the small things), and free to just float through the mountains. Those days don’t happen often, and I don’t take them for granted.

Huge thank you to Beast of Big Creek for an unforgettable race, and to everyone behind the scenes who made it happen. The Skyrunning crew absolutely crushed it capturing these moments.

More to come. Thanks for an incredible week, Merrell. ❤️
