Used the sad music cuz I’m just missing ya 😩😭 the Fellows retreat was life changing. Being on the land, in ceremony, and just laughing together was so healing. The hope that you young ones gave me was such a gift. This was the embodiment of wahkohtowin. All of these lovely humans made this trip so special, and I’m very much missing them all. I’m so grateful we get to be a part of this @mastercardfoundation program together, and I’m counting down the days until I see you again. Before sharing about the amazing week I had at the @mastercardfoundation Fellows retreat, I should share a little about the program. I am so deeply grateful that I have been selected as a 2026 Mastercard Foundation Fellow.
The Mastercard Foundation, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) and
the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI), has launched a new initiative that will support the leadership journeys of more than 1,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis youth over the next decade through long-term, culturally grounded support.
Through the Fellowship, Indigenous young people will have the opportunity to chart their own leadership paths,
strengthen Indigenous representation in decision-making spaces, and help shape the future of their Nations,
communities, and Canada.
As a Fellow, I look forward to deepening my relationship with the other Fellows, strengthening my leaderships skills, developing my knowledge of community and care, and using that to give back to my communities. by @moekiyam

I am so so grateful to be so close to traditional territory, this is my first time in Saskatchewan, and it is so special. We spent our first day in Wanuskewin and settling in after long travel, I enjoyed a bison poutine and learned about medicines from this territory. It was absolutely amazing. Reading materials between flights on the way to @mastercardfoundation Fellows retreat in Saskatoon. I am nervous yet excited for this adventure. TBH the imposter syndrome is hitting hard, trying to alchemize that into gratitude and affirmation that I belong. Here’s to the beginning of something very special. Also I am always preparing for spooky season and this book is so good and setting the mood 🎃 taken in Vancouver Int Airport by @moekiyam

Content: Residential School, loss 🧡 Ahead of Truth and Reconciliation Day, I wanted to share a little of my family’s story. This is my beautiful mom, who didn’t get to grow up within her culture. My mom is of Cree and Scotch-Métis descent, from Peepeekisis Cree Nation in Treaty 4 territory and the Red River Valley. She was adopted in the 60’s and told she was of English and German descent, because of colonial systems we had to reconnect much later in life. Her grandmother Ruby Brass went to Gordon Residential School, where her sister Esther died there of tuberculosis brought by the colonizer. Gordon Residential School officially closed in 1996. It was only because of losing her status her mother did not have to attend. This is exactly the purpose of those schools, to “kill the Indian in the child”, to conform, to erase. I am so grateful to be the generation that reconnected, that found the puzzle pieces and share that with my family. I am grateful to be a lifelong learner, and to be Cree-Métis. Thanks for reading a bit of our truth and story. by @moekiyam

Repost by @viuniversity 💚 now that we’re into fall and everyone’s back to school, I’ve been reflecting on this journey. Missing everyone but enjoying inner reflection, and excited to start the journey that comes after, and recovering from academia! I’m so grateful for the friendships that I got to build during this time, kisâkihitin. by @moekiyam

My journey with Wina Wellness. I’m so grateful that at a time my physical section of the Medicine Wheel was imbalanced with the focus on school and the stress, I got to learn about @redgirl.rising and join their program, and the second round I got to have my sister with me 💚 I am so grateful for the safe and loving space Ivy has built and for all the wonderful people that I’ve gotten to know better. #mvmtismedicine by @moekiyam
