Homecoming 2025 vlog is finally here 🫣 yes the one I lied about dropping earlier.

I was honored to be the “OKPANRAN” in my cousin @missaeve ‘s traditional wedding, a significant role in Itsekiri culture with immense responsibility. Essentially the Okpanran is a priest and as the priest, I had the responsibility of connecting with God through our forebears and seeking their blessings for the couple and everyone at the event.

Historically, the Okpanran is typically an elderly person. However, presently, anyone with the requisite knowledge and spiritual purity can be chosen for the role. I don’t nearly have enough cultural knowledge but I was afforded some guidance on the day 😂

The Okpanran is chosen either by a family decision or through an oracle by tradition. The fact that I was chosen was an honor that I cherish.

Participating in the wedding ceremony as an Okpanran was a reminder of the importance of preserving our rich culture. The Itsekiri people have a unique and rich cultural heritage that I believe we should strive to pass on to future generations.
