I thought this post would be the easiest to write. After writing a whole book on Shah Rukh Khan, you’d think that a post for the gram would be easy. But well, it’s not.

And yes, I am quite nervous. But mostly, I am happy. I am also eternally grateful that @harpercollinsin and @chand_begum chose me to do this book. To spend a year reading every material available on Shah Rukh Khan is every 90s kid’s dream. As one of my interviewees said, SRK is like therapy. It’s been a year of free therapy for me, I guess! (Count me healed)

Today is a day to celebrate everyone who made this happen. This book belongs to my editor Bushra more than it belongs to me. So rarely do we find people who put their might behind pushing you in life. I am grateful my professional life has been filled with such people. Thank you my Queen B (don’t kill me for being sappy) for trusting me with this. I hope I have made you proud.

The past five years have been devastating for all of us. We have lost family, friends, hope, been witness to disproportionate vitriol and hate, suffered lasting impact of prolonged grief. We came out of the pandemic a bit broken, a little bitter, so hopeless. Through the time spent on this book, I somehow managed to heal. I found a community of people who are just like me and somewhere along the way, I began to laugh again (something I had forgotten).

Life can’t help itself but be cruel. While working on this book, we lost @pradeep_bandekar too suddenly. I really wish he were there to see this book come to life. Of all of us SRK fans working on this book, he was the biggest one of all. (Also, there should be a rule against fathers leaving us before time.)

I hope he is blessing @prathameshb84 and me and this book.

I don’t think there’s anything left to say about Shah Rukh Khan that someone already hasn’t. I met a few fans of him today morning and they said the most endearing thing about him - when life gets dark, we always come home to comfort. He is our comfort space.

Happy birthday Mr Khan. We will never stop loving you… thank you for being the fairytale we all like listening to a thousand times over! by @moharbasu

Yesterday’s episode of Koffee with Karan felt like watching a few pages of Salman Khan: The Sultan of Bollywood by Mohar Basu come alive. ☕📚

With Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor’s fun banter, the laughter, and those little glimpses of the friendships and madness that make Bollywood so entertaining, I couldn’t help thinking about this book. From Salman’s childhood and his early films to the unforgettable era of 90s Bollywood, it explores the person behind the superstar and the relationships, brotherhood, and humour that have been part of his journey.

And honestly, “Koffee is always better with a sip of Bhai humour” couldn’t have been more fitting for yesterday’s episode. Some Bollywood stories are best read in a book, while others are even better when Bhai brings them to life. 😂

Have you watched the episode yet, or would you rather revisit the golden era of Bollywood through this book?

Written during the tenure of the Honourable former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, School Chale Hum finds it's way back into public conversation decades later — and the story of how Mehboob wrote it began with a simple question to his daughters.❤️

In this week’s Sunday Mid-Day, I wrote about the Versova society Inlaks that has been home to artists, writers and filmmakers for decades. The quintessential Bombay rental problem - film industry walo ko Ghar nahi dena - led several dreamers to this progressive society where no one asked what caste, what religion, are you a bachelor... The 10x10 homes could fit big hearts and bigger dreams. It came to be known as Mumbai’s mini FTII because everyone straight out of film school just landed up here. They say the movie business is a lonely one but in the Inlaks mohalla everyone felt a sense of belonging. Some say it was a place of networking, some say it had a Midas touch and everyone says it was a home when there was nothing else on their side.

The building goes into redevelopment soon. And one wonders, where will the artists and dreamers go? And more importantly, can the next line of artists coming to the film industry afford the city’s obnoxious rents? Is the big Bollywood dream of coming from nowhere and becoming a superstar a really distant one now?

My Christmas got merrier. Common people’s names don’t end up on billboards, so imagine my surprise 😦
I’m not sure how this happened, but thank God @shabnamsriv exists to make impossible things happen! So grateful to her, @chand_begum and @harpercollinsin

The night ended with bumping into a fan who had just ordered the book. Her happiness made me realise why we do what we do… well, to spread cheer! by @moharbasu
