There are a few opportunities to see the chorus this week!

We rehearse every Thursday at Independence UMC, and this rehearsal will be our first since International. As always, guests are welcome and encouraged to attend!

We will be performing this Sunday, 7/19 at Lakewood Park. Bring a chair or blanket to listen to some tunes Sunday evening! The chorus will be joined by a few quartets as well. There is sure to be something for everyone! by @moichorus

We are thrilled to have placed 15th in the international chorus competition in St. Louis!

This is a significant accomplishment for our men, who placed 30th out of 39 choruses just a year ago.

The week itself was magical. Our guys came together in a way that exceeded expectations. While we had several new members taking the international stage for the first time, it certainly didn’t feel that way. We were prepared, and the work done just this week made all the difference.

Beyond how we placed, we felt a great connection to one another and to the audience. Barbershop harmony is about touching lives, and we feel that we accomplished this in a profound way.

Our coaches Sean Devine and Tony DeRosa helped to provide a framework for success. Seeing them work together during one of our rehearsals this week was incredible. We owe a huge thank you to both of these terrific men.

Our director said it best during our final debrief for the week: What we accomplished here was not the result of any one individual. We did it together.

Before taking the stage tomorrow, the MOI held their international luncheon this afternoon. Members got the chance to share what drew them to barbershop and what they love about the hobby. Pictured are members who will be competing on the international stage for the first time! They each addressed the chorus in what was a great moment for our members.

Thanks to everyone who attended our international send off last night! It was a great night and we are looking forward to presenting our contest package on the international stage one week from today!

Last week, we had an excellent coaching session with our performance coach Sean Devine!

Sean does a great job of giving us the license to feel the music within ourselves. He has been invaluable for us as we refine our contest plan.

We are just 5 weeks away from our Spring Cabaret!

The night will be filled with great tunes from the MOI, along with chapter quartets Mom’s Favorite Barbershop Quartet, Exhibit A Quartet, Hypertonic, and Wild Pitch Quartet.

The MOI were honored to host Tony DeRosa for a coaching session! In just 3 hours, our sound went to another level. There are so many things that each member took away from the night that it is hard to focus on just a few, but we’ll give it a go.

Tony reminded us to remember our “why” for barbershop and to adopt a philosophy of “we” as we work towards our performance at International in St. Louis. “Me” will not get you far in barbershop: It is a team sport.

He also said that anything worth doing is worth doing well and to the best of our abilities. We are ready for a big jump, and Tony helped us to see that.

We are grateful for Tony’s time and support to our chorus. It was a night that our members will remember for many rehearsals to come.
