Looking back at these pictures, I realize how much of my creativity comes from these moments.

Spending my summers in Morocco, surrounded by family, music and people who just loved making music together.

What fascinates me most is the energy of it all. How a simple rhythm could bring an entire room together. Everyone contributing in their own way, almost like some kind of ceremony.

And the funny thing is, that’s exactly what I still love about music today. That feeling of being connected through rhythm. Whether it’s a room full of family in Morocco or thousands of people on a dancefloor.

I guess I’ve been chasing that same feeling my whole life.

I feel like this record is the start of a new journey for me.

And the exciting part is that I don’t fully know what it’s going to sound like yet.

I want to explore more of where I come from. Both sides. My Dutch history and my Moroccan history, and slowly bring those worlds into Moksi in my own way.

“This Is Gonna Hurt” is a pretty subtle first step. I took vocal melodies and chords inspired by Arabic music and pulled them into the Moksi sound.

Maybe the next records will go much further. Maybe those influences will become impossible to miss. I honestly don’t know yet.

And I kinda like that.

I’m figuring it out as I go, out in the open.

I’m half Dutch and half Moroccan. My mom is from The Netherlands 🇳🇱 and my father is from Morocco 🇲🇦. I grew up in the Netherlands. I have two stories in me. Until now i only told one. by @moksiofficial

Lately I just feel like showing more of this side of me. The side I rarely show. The guy behind the bucket hat, behind the tracksuit.

This song is one of many where I’m exploring different parts of myself. Where I come from, the stories I grew up with, the sounds I heard, the things that feel like home. I’m just letting more of that into Moksi now.

‘This Is Gonna Hurt’ is the first of many new songs that will shine a light on that part of me. And its out now!
