Today, I’ll be taking part in the Model BRICS Simulation hosted by Global Eye Intelligence, representing South Africa in the working group on Trade, Industrial Development and Emerging Technologies.

I’m looking forward to engaging with fellow delegates on how BRICS countries can deepen cooperation around industrial development, emerging technologies, digital transformation and trade, while keeping the interests of developing economies at the centre of the discussion.

For me, simulations like this are useful spaces to test policy ideas, sharpen negotiation skills and think through the practical trade-offs that shape multilateral cooperation.

Proud to represent South Africa and contribute to the discussion. 🇿🇦 ✨️ taken in Johannesburg, South Africa by @molatelo_racheku

June has been a month of intense engagement, reflection, and action. Through working with the 1976@50 Campaign and the Seth Mazibuko Foundation, I have had the privilege of being part of several initiatives that bridge the gap between our history and the current state of our democracy.

We kicked off with a High School Intergenerational Dialogue, creating a space for young learners to engage directly with the legacy of 1976. This was followed by a colloquium from May 27 to 30, where we reflected on the stories of 1976 to inform our ongoing work. The momentum carried into our Big March on June 16, where we retraced the planned route of the youth of 1976 from Vilakazi Street to the Orlando Stadium. This was a powerful act of remembrance and commitment to the unfinished business of liberation.

We concluded our youth engagements with a National Youth Summit at Constitution Hill, themed Constitutionalism in Action: Youth Shaping the future. It was a privilege to hear firsthand accounts from struggle stalwarts like Seth Mazibuko, Ronnie Mathabathe, and Mme Joyce, all of whom shared their powerful stories of resilience.

The summit convened over 100 young leaders, activists, students, and organizers who filled the space with a clear desire to shape the direction our country needs to take. As we conclude the 50th anniversary of the 1976 uprising, it is important that we commemorate this milestone in a way we can look back on with pride. The baton is now firmly in our hands. We carry on the struggle by serving as examples to other young people through active citizenship in our own communities. We must transform systemic frustration into practical civic action to build a prosperous South Africa where no young person is left behind. taken in Johannesburg, South Africa by @molatelo_racheku

Today I’m not here to analyze politics. I’m here to reflect on a personal milestone.

It is my birthday, and I’m taking a moment to honor the distance traveled. This last year hasn't been easy. It tested my resolve and forced me to confront challenges that didn't always have a clear solution. But I’m still standing, and I’m still fighting to be the best version of myself.

They don't tell you how steep the climb is, they only show you the view from the top. Looking back, I’m thinking of a young boy from Botlokwa who had the audacity to dream of spaces he’d never seen. Today, I walk into rooms I once only imagined.

Growth isn't linear, and success is rarely quiet. I’ve faced the fire, learned from the setbacks, and emerged with a clearer vision of the man I want to be. My commitment to my own evolution remains unshaken.

Here is to another year of grit, growth, and pushing boundaries.

Aluta continua! 🙏🏾 taken in Johannesburg, South Africa by @molatelo_racheku

Last night I joined the conversation on @sabcnewsonline It’s Topical to call out a disturbing trend that is becoming a threat our democracy. That threat is MPs who prioritize their own celebrity status and political preservation over the public’s right to the truth. Witnesses become hostile and uncooperative because the MPs in the committee do not respect the house enough, they're focused on saving themselves and their parties.

Whether you like a witness or not is irrelevant. The moment a proceeding collapses into a shouting match for the cameras, the process has failed.

When we allow "trial by legislature" to replace real fact-finding, we aren’t getting accountability, we’re getting theater. If an MP in the committee is more focused on a 30 second Tiktok viral moment than on following the evidence, they aren't serving the public, they’re serving their own social media feed.

The ultimate price isn't paid by the witness. It’s paid by the citizens who are left with a broken system and no real answers. We need to stop rewarding the grandstanding and start demanding that these committees actually do the work they were designed for.
