Plans change. That’s construction.

What matters is making sure those changes don’t turn into missed details, confusion or unnecessary delays.

Casey walks through how Moll Construction documents changes in the field, keeps everyone informed and makes sure the project stays on track.

So far on this one? Right where it should be. taken in Sonoma, California by @moll_construction

This is what remodeling actually looks like.

You open up the walls, see what you’re really working with and sometimes the original plan goes out the window.

Here, the plan was to relocate the heat pump. Once Casey got into the space, it became pretty clear that the spot they had in mind wasn’t going to work.

That’s where experience matters. You figure it out in the field, find a better solution and keep the job moving.

The plans call for sleepers to bring this old sunken living room up to the same level as the rest of the house.

That works. But there’s another way to do it.

Casey walks through both options, including why opening up the existing floor and raising the joists could give the homeowner something valuable down the road: an actual crawl space with ventilation and access underneath the house.

There’s a cost and time difference between the two. Our job is to understand the options, think about how the house will function years from now and help the client decide which direction makes the most sense.

That’s the kind of stuff you don’t see once the finished floors go in. taken in Sonoma, California by @moll_construction

Every contractor has a favorite tool. Casey’s apparently is a broom. Not for sweeping, but for pointing at absolutely everything on the job site.

We started counting during a client walk through. Turns out the broom is basically part of the presentation at this point. taken in Sonoma, California by @moll_construction

One of the coolest parts of remodeling an older home is opening up the walls and seeing how things were actually built decades ago.

Casey spotted this wiring right away. No nail plates protecting it, which means a nail or screw through the drywall could go straight into the wire. That wouldn’t fly today.

Older homes always have a few surprises waiting behind the walls. Knowing what you’re looking at when you find them matters. taken in Sonoma, California by @moll_construction

Everybody starts somewhere. Casey started by picking up nails.

Growing up around job sites, he was too young to do much else while his dad and brothers built houses, so naturally, he became the official nail picker upper.

Years later, he’s still on the job site, still learning something new every day and now carrying the Moll Construction legacy forward.

Well… that escalated quickly!

Demo moved fast this week. Drywall is out, walls are coming down, spaces are opening up and we’re starting to see what this home is actually going to become.

Casey walks through what changed, why we demo in stages and one decision that could completely change the feel of the house.

We wrap up the tour talking about the new primary bedroom, bathroom, laundry and wine cellar… basically, if a wall thought it was safe in this house, it was wrong. 😂

That wraps up our walkthrough but we’re definitely not done showing you this project.

Now comes the fun part, watching all these plans turn into our client’s new home.

Follow along. We’ll show you the transformation as it happens. 🏠 taken in Sonoma, California by @moll_construction

Walls coming down. Floors coming up. Doors becoming windows. A new dining room, library and a 12 foot opening that will connect the house straight to the pool and outdoor space.

Safe to say, this one is going to feel a little different when we’re done.

This is the fun part, taking what’s there, listening to how our clients want to live and figuring out how to make the house work for them. taken in Sonoma, California by @moll_construction

We weren’t planning on this but…

The plan already included opening up the kitchen and living space, but once we got into the house we realized what we thought were trusses were actually rafters.

That discovery opened up a new possibility, vaulting the ceilings throughout the space. Major win for the client!

Sometimes the best parts of a remodel aren’t in the original plans. You find them once you start opening things up.
