A couple of days ago whilst volunteering at the hospital, I went back to a particular ward for the first time since November.

The last time I had been through those doors, I was patient.

As soon as I entered the ward, I felt myself looking over at the bed that I stayed in and I had horrible flashbacks. I found it really hard to see the patients there. I just wanted to hug every person and say this isn’t your only way out, I promise and it is possible to try and turn your life around. The experience reminded me that with mental health, there will be good days but there will still be bad days and that is ok. It doesn’t mean that I’m not getting better; just that I am human.

The reason I began volunteering was because I wanted to give back to this incredible hospital; an amazing team of staff who have saved my life countless times and to support the patients but I have to admit, that I found that unexpectedly tough on Tuesday.

These pictures were never meant to be shared but with the recent ideas we are working on, such as filming with riders about mental health topics, I asked myself..How can I approach riders and ask them to talk openly about mental health, when I hadn’t even done that myself?

I hope this video shows that many have struggles going on behind the scenes, behind the cameras, behind the perfect idea of reality that is constantly pushed on social media.

The first photo from Luhmühlen I stood there with Charly, crying. Not because I had won but because just weeks before I was lying in hospital not sure if I’d walk back out. With an unwavering support network I have and thanks to our incredible NHS, I have been given more time, more days with Charly, more moments I thought I’d never have.

Please try to remember that nobody’s life is all that it seems on social media. Suffering with a mental illness can feel completely crippling at times but know that you can get better. Although recovery can take a long time, you are not alone.

Safe flight my darling 🇺🇸 ✈️

Where to even begin..the love I feel for you and how much I have to thank you for; there are simply not enough words.

The best moments of my life are undoubtedly the ones I’ve shared with you.
From your first jump under saddle, to winning a 5*…what a journey it has been. You have shown the world what a superstar you are and I’m eternally grateful to have had you in my life.

The opportunity to be based with @pippafunnell.official and learn so much together, representing Great Britain at the YR Europeans and Nations Cups, achieving thirteen top ten placings at 4* and winning at every International level..you have made so many of my dreams come true!

With results aside though, behind closed doors when I’ve felt as though I’m falling apart; it was always the thought of you at home waiting for me, that kept me going in some of my darkest times.

These last 9 years, sharing my life with you and having you there by my side, I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss you.

I know I will find looking at your empty stable incredibly tough but I take comfort in knowing what a wonderful life you will have with your new owner, everything I ever go on to achieve will be thanks to you Charly.

Although no amount of time with you ever would have felt enough-I will forever be thankful for the memories we have made together and I will cherish those moments forever ❤️‍🩹 by @molliesummerland

Odie, one very smart 7yr old feeling awesome on her first time xc… only our first ride together and I really was so impressed with this super exciting event prospect owned by @phoebepowellequestrian 😮‍💨🤩

Horses of her scope and ability and yet also an age you can really get going and enjoy, are hard to come by.
There are plenty of top shows you could aim her towards in her 8yr old year and beyond… she was so kind and honest to work with and already even after only one xc school gave you the feeling she would love to be an event horse.

I think if someone put in the time and gave her good consistent training she has so much potential for the top of the sport with one very lucky person!! by @molliesummerland

1 year, 10 months and 9 days…

Simple moments, things that can be easy to take for granted, those parts of your day that can just become routine for us all- it’s these things that are so important to try and stop and appreciate, to acknowledge, because no day we have is ever promised.

Mental health somehow feels easier to address on here when I am finding things harder, somehow maybe I feel closer to those emotions. I find it easier to put into words I suppose and share with you all, in the hope of reaching people who need to hear they are not alone. Yet despite that, mental health is something I care about deeply and even though I am feeling in a better place myself, I think it is important to continue speaking about…albeit, even if that does feel more difficult.

The last time I was a patient in hospital, I did not believe there would be any more pages of my story to turn. So now I try to remind myself to be even more grateful for those simple ‘ordinary’ moments I used to look past on my days with horses.

Of course like everyone’s life, days have not been without challenges, many I’ve laughed, some I’ve cried but I think we all, in our own ways, will have had reminders of how precious life really is.

So I guess what I wanted to say is that if you are struggling right now, believe that despite what your head might be convincing you to feel, maybe there are more pages of your story too. So far I’ve had 678 I once believed I would never get…

Freddy mouse… to think of the journey you have come on this past year, makes last week at @cornburyhorsetrials even more special 🐭🤯🤩

A huge thank you to my entire team and sponsors who really help make these moments possible. I’m so very grateful to you all.

Freddo has come a long way from a horse that was nervous to even go over a pole. Many days at the start were spent just quietly leading him in hand around the arena and building trust from the ground.

A year ago, having only just arrived and never jumped under saddle, we slowly tried to teach him how fun this all could be but never did we dare to dream almost a year to the day of his arrival with us, that he would be crowned National Champion.

It’s a huge credit to my incredible team and to what a magnificent horse Freddo really is.

To my investors who put their faith in us as a partnership, having no idea how Freddo would ever cope with learning about showjumping and cross country- Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking a chance on us…it’s people like this you need in your corner to back you and take a chance on you, when you are trying to rebuild and get out there again..welcoming you both to our team has been such a pleasure, you are some of our biggest cheerleaders (along with the wonderful Cloke family and my Joey of course and the rest of our mega supporters!!) and yet this decision really was never about being amongst the limelight yourselves but simply to show how much you were rooting for us but know from me, that your support means everything!

I hope we did you proud 🥹

Don Alfredo is the @britisheventing Howden Way National 6YO Champion, ridden by Mollie Summerland.

Having led from the second day of dressage, the combination stayed on their dressage score to win by 2.4 penalties in a very hotly contested 90-strong section.

Cross country day with the boys out in France!

So impressed by young Freddo storming around a testing track with three strong water complexes, to round off his first International show with a great clear inside the time👌🏼

Saffy also finished full of running around his first long format, the most honest horse-showing so much promise for the future.

He’s answered every question this season and continues to impress us, in what is still a very new partnership between us this year 🤗🙌🏻
