𝗠𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗬’𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗬
𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

A conversation with Molly Winckelmans, the Belgian Zimbabwean artist behind A Molly and founder of Molly’sArtMove Gallery in Bornem, Belgium.

What would you like people to discover when they visit your gallery?

I want people to feel welcome and take their time with the paintings. Colour may draw them in first, followed by the textures, figures and smaller details. The gallery is also a place to ask questions, hear the stories behind the work and discover what speaks to them personally.

How do your Zimbabwean roots and your life in Belgium influence your work?

Both are part of who I am.
My Zimbabwean roots inform my use of colour, my connection to nature and my sense of community. My life in Belgium brings other experiences and perspectives. These influences come together in my sculptural figurative paintings and Ubuntu landscapes.

Texture is a distinctive feature of your paintings. What does it bring to your work?

Working with a palette knife allows me to build layers, movement and sculptural relief. Texture gives the painting a physical presence. As you move closer or view it from another angle, different details emerge.

What does Ubuntu mean to you as an artist?

𝗨𝗯𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘂 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 “𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲.”

For me, it expresses our shared humanity and the ways our lives are connected. That belief runs through my paintings and the spirit of the gallery. Art gives us a way to share experiences and see something of ourselves in one another.

What would you say to someone visiting for the first time?

You’re warmly welcome. You don’t need to know about art to enjoy it. Come with curiosity, explore at your own pace and let yourself connect with a painting.

TOGETHER, WE SHINE

A Molly

150 × 100 cm
Acrylic on canvas | Palette-knife technique
Ubuntu Sculptural Figurative Painting

Some days we shine with confidence. Other days, someone beside us helps us remember our light.

Together, We Shine celebrates the women who encourage us, stand beside us and make space for us to grow. Each carries her own story, her own dreams and a strength shaped by life.

With my palette knife, I build layers of acrylic into sculptural textures, giving colour a physical presence. These layers echo the stories we carry - the experiences that shape us and the connections that help us move forward.

At the heart of this painting is Ubuntu:
“I am because we are.”

When one woman shines, she can help another find her courage. Together, we create a world where each of us feels seen, valued and free to be herself. 💛

There is room for all our colours.
Together, we shine. ✨

A Molly is more than a painting. It’s a connection. 🤗

A MOLLY 🇱🇺🎨
THANK YOU, LUXEMBOURG! ❤️

What a beautiful experience exhibiting at ART3F Luxembourg! Three days filled with art, lovely conversations and the joy of meeting amazing people from Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by my stand, took time to explore my paintings and shared what they made you feel. Your smiles, curiosity and kind words made these days so special.

Watching people connect with my Ubuntu landscapes and sculptural figurative paintings reminds me why I love sharing my work. Each conversation brings another story, another perspective and another connection.

That is the spirit of Ubuntu:
“I am because we are.”

I leave Luxembourg with a grateful heart, beautiful memories and fresh inspiration. To everyone I met - thank you for being part of my artistic journey. I hope our paths cross again! ❤️🎨

A Molly is more than a painting. It’s a connection.
