I’ve been fascinated by the “Gen Z pout” ever since Rayne Fisher-Quann first wrote about it for @i_d in 2022.

Growing up with grimacing models like Linda, Cindy, Naomi, and Christie (and a mom whose eyebrow acrobatics defied Botox), I wanted to push past the pout and capture the emotions that captivated me as a kid.

So, I asked 5 Gen Zers to respond to the economy, AI, sex, and the state of the world — using only their faces

Like so many of my best subjects, @michael_klok came to me by way of my sister.

He drops daily hair truths — like “Bangs are controlled drama” — dressed in getups even New Yorkers pause to appreciate, rain or shine, and with or without hair.

(He regularly rotates through wigs of every length, cut, and color, and once documented himself shaving his head.)

I met up with the man from the mountains of Greece in his adopted New York City, watching in awe as he waltzed through Bergdorf Goodman in a long blond wig and bright blue dress on our way to Café Ginori.

When I reallyyyy miss her — in that aching sort of way that also makes you numb — the only thing I feel is my want for my mother.

I’ve come to learn that no matter how much time has passed or how much older I get, that primal “I want my mom” feeling never goes away.

Home is my mother.

At 6’3’’ with golden red hair and a physique that seems impervious to self-doubt, Matt Westbrook all but demands to be seen.

Yet in getting to know the man I was both drawn to and intimidated by, I learned that he was once afraid of being perceived.
