Changemakers of the past: Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha
Prince Albert, born in Germany, became prince of the United Kingdom at the age of twenty. During his reign Prince Albert had a strong reputation for supporting public causes. Prince Albert played an important role in the abolition of slavery and child labour in the United Kingdom of England and Ireland.
He was also a key player in the reformation of education, by including natural sciences and modern history.

Stories of the world #3: Thailand - Krabi

This is a story like no other...
While strolling through the night markets of Krabi we encounterd this mother son duo. We were captivated by the way they made paintings. These paintings are made on-demand and also on the spot, with a painting being ready after 5 minutes and only costing 100 Baht (approximately 3 euro's). The paintings were made in a distinctive style called knife painting. This style is very popular and mostly taught in Myanmar, which was a long way from where we were, Krabi.
After asking the woman how her son learned this style of painting she told us a story that touched us deeply. It turns out that the Mother is a farmer who works at her own farm from every day from early in the morning until the late afternoon. She started saving money. During this period she also noticed how passionate her son and daughter were about art. After saving up enough money she decided to send her son and daughter to an art school in Myanmar to improve and master their craft. Until this day she still farms. On the evenings that there's a night market she comes out to support her son with his art, as she speaks quite a bit of English. Her daughter also paints but doesn't reside in Krabi anymore.
After asking the mother for her motivation she explained that when she was younger she also had dreams that she unfortunately couldn't chase them. Knowing how painful this was and seeing the joy and passion that her children were feeling when making art, she told herself that she would do everything to help them chase their dreams.

This motherly love touched us deeply and we really felt this in our hearts.
The artist can be found on Facebook under the name of 'JJ Knife Painting'

Stories of the world #2: Thailand - Chiang Mai
We met this amazing guy named Fon during our trip to the elephant sanctuary. Fon was our guide during this amazing excursion. He is 29 years old and has been giving excursions since he was 16. He first started out doing hiking tours but switched to the elephant sanctuary 7 years ago after seeing what happened to elephants that were held in captivity.

Together with his sister and other members of the Hill Tribe they free elephants from captivity with the help of the Thai government. Whilst still a student at the University of Chiang Mai he strives to make a impact in his local community.

He's so motivated for this cause that he talked with his university and is taking classes on Saturday and Sunday while working at the elephant sanctuary from Monday through Friday. He has literally no days off!
Did you know that it costs around 150,000 euros to free an elephant from captivity?

What do you do to keep you motivated? And how do you try to make impact on your local community?

Stories of the world: Thailand #1 - We ran into this power woman whilst exploring the night market of Chang Mai. We saw her making passportholders for tourists at only the cost of 100 Bt. This is the equivalent of approximately 3 euro's. Mind that this is very cheap for handcrafted and personalized leather passports.

We immediately fell in love with her products and decided to have some passportholders made by her. During the preparation of the holders we got into a conversation. This woman has been selling this stuff for over 25 years and appears to be a single mother who works 18 hours a day selling elephant statues and personalized passports. All this so her son can study at the University of Chiang Mai... #stories #storiesofthailand #thailandtravel #thailand #womanpower #amazing by @momedia.nl
