I started Mama Uprooted because I needed a place like this too.

I’ve been the mom crying after everyone went to sleep because I didn’t recognize myself anymore.

I’ve been the mom who loved her babies more than anything and still wondered why motherhood felt so damn hard.

And I’m learning that finding yourself again isn’t one giant transformation.

It’s little things. Little roots. One at a time.

So if you’re in that season right now, stay.

We’re going to talk motherhood, wellness, real food, slowing down, growing things, laughing at the absolute chaos and de-influencing ourselves from all the crap we’re told we need to be “better” moms.

And when I find something that actually helps? I’ll tell you that too.

That’s what this space is.

Moms growing in different soils, together.

And if you’re ready for a place to start, my 7-Day Reset is waiting for you in my bio. by @momma_uprooted

Hi, I’m Emily.

If you’re new here, welcome to Mama Uprooted.

For a long time, I thought motherhood made me lose myself.

But looking back… I don’t think I lost myself at all.

I think I lost the version of me I thought I had to be.

Postpartum was one of the hardest seasons of my life. My hair was falling out. Showers felt impossible. I questioned everything because everyone seemed to have an opinion about how I should be raising my children.

The more I listened to everyone else, the less I trusted myself.

It took years to find my footing again.

Years to realize that I don’t have to mother like everyone else.

Years to stop chasing perfection and start following my own heart.

Today, I finally feel like me again.

Not the Emily before kids.

A stronger, more grounded Emily because of them.

That’s why I started Mama Uprooted.

This isn’t just a farm page.

It’s a place where we’re uprooting the expectations, comparison, and pressure that motherhood can bring.

We’re building a community rooted in encouragement, laughter, healing, self-care, holistic wellness, and the freedom to grow into the women we’re meant to be.

Around here, I believe we’re all different flowers.

We don’t bloom in the same season.

We don’t grow in the same soil.

And that’s exactly what makes us beautiful.

If you’ve ever felt like you were trying to find yourself again after becoming a mom…

I’d love to know what’s one thing motherhood has taught you about yourself?

Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.

Motherhood didn’t make me lose myself.

But somewhere between taking care of everyone, building a career, keeping a house running, raising babies and trying to be everything everyone needed…

I stopped asking what I needed.

And finding myself again has meant realizing not everyone gets unlimited access to me.

I can be kind without constantly explaining myself.

I can love people and still have boundaries.

I can say no without writing a three-paragraph apology afterward.

I can protect my peace, chase big ass dreams, raise my babies and still make room for the woman underneath “Mom.”

That’s what Momma Uprooted has become for me.

Not escaping motherhood.

Finding yourself again inside the life you worked so damn hard to build.

If you’re somewhere in that season too, follow Momma Uprooted. I think you found your people. by @momma_uprooted

People always ask why I plant marigolds everywhere. Here’s the real reason.

They repel pests all summer, attract pollinators, and come back wild by the end of the season. I clip and dry every bit of them, then sprinkle them through the garden next spring and share them with the chickens all winter.

One plant. Protection, food, and new growth, all from the same handful of seeds. (And a horse who still hasn’t given up on that fence line. 🙄)

Comment marigold you’re stealing this idea for next season. 🌼

Before kids, I could throw on boots and be out the door in five minutes.

Now getting out the door means snacks, shoes nobody wants to wear, and a toddler who picked right now to have an opinion about everything.

I didn’t lose the country girl. She just has backup now.

Slower. Louder. A little more chaotic. Still her just with a few extra people along for the ride.

If this is you too tag the mom who needs to see this, or just say “me too” below. 👇

If you’ve ever felt behind because your life doesn’t look like hers this is for you.

Some of us are working full-time. Some are home with our kids all day. Some are homeschooling, some aren’t. Some have a village, some are figuring it out completely alone.

Different soil. Different season. Different everything.

But we’re all trying to grow something good for ourselves, for our kids, for the life we’re building. You don’t need the same conditions as me to do that.

Moms working full-time with two kids have 40% higher chronic stress markers than women working full-time with none.

That’s from a UK study that checked 11 markers. Hormones, blood pressure, all of it.

One kid: 18% higher.
Two kids: 40% higher.

Working from home didn’t lower it. Flexible hours didn’t either. The only thing that did was doing less.

I read that and felt it in my chest.

After my first baby, I disappeared. Colic, no sleep, my husband back at work, and me alone in the house wondering where the girl who showed horses went.

When my son was born, I decided I wasn’t doing it that way again.

I didn’t quit my job. I couldn’t. So I started small. Dirt under my nails. Real food. Time in the barn that was mine. One thing a day that had nothing to do with being needed.

That’s how I got me back. Not all at once. Not perfectly. I still work nonstop. But I’m in my life again instead of just running it.

That’s what the 7-Day Reset is. Seven days, one small thing a day, built for a mom who doesn’t have an extra hour.

Can I de-influence you from canned cream of chicken soup?

It’s bioengineered, full of fillers you can’t pronounce, and somehow we’ve all just accepted it as “the base” for a hundred recipes.

It takes me two minutes to make the real thing. Butter, flour, broth, milk, salt and pepper. Whisk it together and you have something that actually tastes like food.

Stop buying the can. You don’t need it, and your recipes don’t either.

Comment “CAN” and I’ll send you my easy recipe. @kettleandfire

I’m afraid of birds and I own chickens. Make it make sense.

My winter coop tips, from someone who does this scared:

Straw, and more straw. A wet coop is a sick coop, so swap it out before it gets damp.

Diatomaceous earth for mites and lice. Sprinkle it in the bedding and nest boxes, and wear a mask because it’s dusty.

Check under the feathers. Bugs hide around the vent and under the wings, not where you can see them.

Heat lamps get secured twice. Clamp plus a chain. Coop fires are real.

Keep air moving up high. Sealing the coop tight traps moisture, and moisture is what leads to frostbite.

Water freezes fast. Check it morning and night.

Grab eggs often. Frozen eggs crack.

And feed alone doesn’t always cover a laying hen, especially in winter and during molt. Thin shells, rough feathers and low energy are the signs she needs more. I add @runchickendoor VitalMix a couple times a week, daily during molt.

Please tell me I’m not the only one scared of her own animals. And drop your best winter coop tip, I NEED them.

My husband went back to work. I had a colicky baby, blurred vision, and I felt my friends disappear. I just had to figure it
Nobody tells you the loneliest season of your life might be the one where you’re holding a baby 24/7.
The horses were the only place I could actually breathe that year. Not a hobby. A lifeline.
If you’re in that season right now you are not failing. You’re just in the hardest part, and it does not last forever.

It wasn’t one big decision. It was cucumber mint water and five minutes of sunlight.

After I lost myself in that first hard season of motherhood, I didn’t find my way back through some big dramatic moment.

I found her in the garden. In sourdough starter on the counter. In goat milk and fresh herbs and just being outside more.

Nobody tells you healing can be that small. That unglamorous. That it’s just dirt under your nails and sun on your face, over and over, until one day you realize you feel like you again.

If you’re looking for the big breakthrough maybe stop looking for it, and start noticing the tiny things instead.

YOUR ROOT FOR TODAY:
Journal prompt — what’s one small, unglamorous thing that’s quietly been helping you feel like yourself again? Write it down, even if it seems too small to count.

Today’s affirmation: Healing doesn’t have to be dramatic to be real. The tiny things count too.

Follow along, Momma. We’ve got a LOT to talk about. Let’s uproot, grow and re-root together.
