Thank you, EVERYBODY, for taking time to celebrate my 57th rotation around the sun!!! I am ever so grateful for each phone call, text message, social media post… and the slightly naughty nautical crew 😘 who joined me on Lake Michigan! (Shout out to Capt. Ken and host Cuttie! ⚓️👏🏾)

I laughed… I noshed… I cried… I noshed… I shared… I received… I danced… I recorded… I sang… I noshed… and, I LOVED every moment!!!

About this past LOVE-filled weekend:

CONGRATULATIONS to my cousin @nicolejwheatly on the grand opening of her new community/event venue The Estate Escape, 4517 S State St. I’m uber proud and ever in awe of her!!!

And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to @acclivusinc co-founder/CEO @levon95 who celebrated his 20 years as a full-time community violence intervention employee with a huuuuge community picnic at Abbott Park.

4th of July weekend recap:
Thursday afternoon: @obamalibrary with @smileitsdayn @earthto.jadah and @chatdaddy1
(‘Gotta go back to see the rest of it!)
Friday: rowed to the beauty shop for my summer ‘do… thanks, @mzecea
Saturday: resale, retail therapy with @jessmfaulk @heykamaca @theemichelelemons
And, after the @realglennjones concert was canceled, Art and I enjoyed dinner in Chinatown and a(mother) @mariositalianlemonade nightcap!
Sunday: worship service at @newlifesoutheast and a powerful message from @pastorhannah followed by a vendor marketplace
Then, a stop at @strugglebeardbakery to grab treats for my cousin @kjack1015, her hubby and children!

At the beginning of 2025, I asked God to give me better discernment. Admittedly, I often choose to see people and incidents through rose-colored-glasses… and am told that I’m too nice.

Today, I’m kicking off 2026 just thanking God for giving me the desires of my heart… equipping me with everything and connecting me with everyone necessary to (spoiler alert): WIN… ‘cause I’m gon’ keep getting/doing/living/loving BETTER!

Key nuggets that resurface along my journey:

- Be slow to take offense and quick to give grace! Most people are doing the best they can and simply don’t have the capacity to do or be what works best for me… and that’s okay.

- Have patience with others (and myself). The people I allow to hold my time and heart space are treasured gifts… I have to be patient as they learn how to respect the boundaries I am trying to express and enforce.

- Don’t get ready to be blessed… stay ready! From favor in the checkout line, a free meal, last-minute travel or event invitations, I don’t want blessings to wait on me to catch up and receive them.

- Dance and sing ALOUD! I make a dance floor and create a mic anywhere - my kitchen and bathroom, the car or hotel lobby… ‘soooo therapeutic!

- Laugh OFTEN! The ability to find humor in anything (incl. stank customer service, middle-age body betrayals or professional mishaps) shaves stress off my shoulders and adds years to my life.

- Be a conduit of/for LOVE! No matter the outcome of romantic or platonic relationships, I’m going to keep opening my heart to give/show/receive/grow in love… throughout this year and beyond! taken in Marriott Oakbrook Hotel by @mommkat
