If you’re looking for an annual, kid-friendly Halloween tradition right here on LI, then you have to check out @riseofthejackolanterns at the @usdanarts campus in Wheatley Heights, right on the Nassau/Suffolk border. This is a spooky, woodsy, hilly trail that will take about an hour or so to walk through. It’s approx a mile walk total, fully paved & stroller friendly. I highly recommend bringing a wagon or stroller for younger kids. There is nothing overwhelmingly scary here, just spooky. Kids will recognize many of their favorite characters, from Bluey to Disney Princesses, to Roblox, Minecraft & Star Wars, plus lots of displays for the adults to enjoy, as well. They have fun music playing in each section. Since it’s a longer trail, it doesn’t get too crowded & most of the time we were pretty much alone on the path. I recommend heading to the little cafe area first, grabbing a hot chocolate or hot cider & a snack, & bringing that on the walk with you. There are bathrooms near the cafe & in the middle of the trail (not port-o-potties - real bathrooms!). If the weather looks like it may rain, bring an umbrella & rain boots, since this is a rain or shine event. America’s FIRST tiramisu café just opened on Long Island, and as someone whose favorite dessert is tiramisu, obviously I had to go immediately. This is @bisqo.us, a Dubai-inspired dessert cafe that just opened its first-ever U.S. location right here in Hicksville, and the entire café is basically a love letter to tiramisu & matcha. They’re taking the classic dessert and turning it into pretty much everything you can imagine.
