Off season is tricky. #imo For the players it is a well deserved break for their body & mind. The time I’m sure they all need away from the “work” of football. It is a time they will still train their bodies but in a sense get a break from the work of football. For wives, girl friends it’s an exciting time, I can imagine, as they have their partner back in a sense. ❤️ More quality time, help with kids, routines, honey do’s, travel time, etc. This is much needed for all! 🙌🏼 For Moms, we’re happy our son made it thru another year, safely. 🙏🏼 Off Season usually means more family time for us…so that’s a plus!! But….off season can be nerve wrecking as well. This is also cut time & contract negotiation time. It’s a time of wait and see what the organization plans to do with your son’s contract. It’s a time of anxiety and prayer that it’ll all work in his favor. It’s a time of prayer that God will guide him, his family and agent in the tough decisions that might be coming. This season comes every year but it never gets easy. Yes, we’re proud, we’ve seen our son live out his dream another year but it doesn’t come without worry. For families and players in the NFL, we know that NFL often feels like it stands for Not For Long. The journey can bring the most thrilling highs and the most devastating lows. Thankfully, we’ve been blessed to experience more highs than lows—thank you, God! But when the lows come, like waiting for a team to call after being released, they can test your patience and faith.

Waiting—whether it’s for something we deeply want for ourselves or, as a parent, something we desperately hope for our children—can feel daunting. As much as I strive to stay faithful and positive, it’s not always easy. Still, I know God has a plan, and I firmly believe that what is meant for you cannot be stopped. But even with that knowledge, the waiting can be so hard.

Through it all, I try to pray, stay patient, and trust that God is working behind the scenes. Jalen, I want you to know how incredibly proud I am of you—not just for living out your dream of playing in the NFL but for the amazing person you are. You are a loving son, brother, grandson, friend, husband, father, and so much more. Your kind, patient, and loving heart makes me prouder than words can express.

God’s got you, and Momma will always be here praying for your path in life. I love you beyond measure!

One of the not-so-fun realities of being an NFL player is uncertainty. If you hadn’t heard, now you know. J was released yesterday.

And now, the wait begins. I’m not good with the wait. But we wait. We wait with faith, anticipation & hope for another team to pick him up. While we wait, J has to be ready to shine when the call comes. Please pray for a peaceful transition, the next step, the wait & the journey home. We will wait & give praise in hallway for the next door to open. 🙏🏼🙌🏼

On the bright side, they’ll be home very soon!!! On the bright side….I get to see my sweet granddaughters very soon!!

Wow!! This made me cry. As a mom you hope and pray that fans see your son as more than a football player. You pray they will lift them up and give them credit as human, not just a number on the field. Being a part of the @chargers and being Chargers family was really special!! I know @jalenguyton_ learned & grew there as a man, teammate & player. He had the opportunity to learn from some of the best!! He is truly living out his dream and to have family & friends that willingly and wholeheartedly heartedly support your kid is an AMAZING feeling!! Thank you. @brisketbroads for SEEING Jalen. Throwing it back to our Draft Weekend Experience in 2019.

Even though we knew Jalen wouldn’t be picked until possibly the 6th or 7th round or maybe not at all; we gathered with a few close friends and family members to wait it out.
It was a huge deal to us as his parents to celebrate this accomplishment and weekend. However; Jalen isn’t a real “celebrate me” kind of guy. But he obliged our request to have some close people around us.

It’s a weird thing because you are so excited for your son, but you also know that in his position he may not even get a call. The percentage of young men who get to actually realize this dream is very very small! The weekend was fun but full of us all anxiously awaiting what the end result would be. He had multiple calls from his agent, Kelli Masters with KMM Sports Management & some calls from teams. Each round is going by and your watching what each team is doing, what positions they’re taking. While paying special attention to those teams who had expressed interest in Jalen. As it nears the end your still hoping upon hope that the call comes in.

Very near the end of the 7th round Jalen’s agent called and said the Cowboys had a great offer on the table. It was a better offer than some of the guys had received in rounds 6 & 7. We were, of course, elated that he would be a Cowboy!!! Hometown boy and staying in Texas. It was such an incredible feeling and knowing that they saw the value he would add, his athleticism and the work ethic he displayed was so rewarding as a parent and to Jalen I’m sure! We were all so thankful he was realizing a dream come true that he’d had since he was about 5 years old!

But the call is only the beginning. They then have to go out prove they belong every day, at every practice, every meeting, every encounter with teammates and coaches and they have to continue to do that every week, every game, every season. There’s always someone ready to take your position.
