WET MY PLANTS!

Yeah. You read that right.

No supervision was involved in the making of these commercials.

On a serious note, if your yard is dry, boring, lifeless, and not attracting a single butterfly… we can fix that!

Native plants. Pollinator gardens. Wildlife habitats. Rain gardens. Full landscape transformations.

We’ll design it.
We’ll plant it.
We’ll even wet it.

TAG somebody whose plants desperately need to get wet. by @monarchranchsc

What started with one pollinator planter is turning into something much bigger.

We have a goal create connected pockets of native pollinator habitats across South Carolina starting right here in BAMBERG.

Every planter every garden every patch of milkweed, every native flower added back into our communities, becomes another place for monarchs to lay their eggs, a native bee to find food or a butterfly to stop along journey.

We want BAMBERG to become a model for what a pollinator friendly town looks like.
And then we want to do it to another town in South Carolina.
And another.

Until these little pockets of habitat start connecting communities across the entire state.

The best part is, we’re not talking about wanting to do this. We are already doing it.

The gardens and planters in this video are just some of the projects already growing across South!

Now we want to know what South Carolina town should we bring the pollinator pathway project to next?
Tag a town, a business, or someone you know that can host a pollinator pathway!

From an ordinary outdoor space to a thriving native pollinator and wildlife habitat!

This Chapin, South Carolina landscape transformation for @spatravelgal and her husband Kerry, was designed and installed to create more than just a beautiful garden. The goal was to build a functional backyard ecosystem that supports butterflies, native bees, birds, and other South Carolina wildlife while giving the homeowners a beautiful, immersive outdoor space to enjoy.

Designed and installed by Sean Reid of Monarch Ranch Butterfly Conservatory, this Chapin, South Carolina garden project combines native and pollinator friendly plants, layered landscape design, natural hardscaping, pathways, habitat features, and solutions for erosion and water management.

The result is a landscape designed to become even more beautiful as it matures, filled with changing blooms, movement, texture, wildlife, and life throughout the seasons.

Our approach to landscaping focuses on creating gardens that work WITH South Carolina’s natural environment. Instead of designing a yard that simply looks good, we create intentional ecosystems that can provide food, shelter, host plants, nesting resources, and habitat for the wildlife already living around us.

The dark/black morph eastern tiger swallowtail gave Monarch Ranch Butterfly Conservatory a visit yesterday!

These variations are rare in the northern parts of the US but can become more common in the south due to our large pipevine butterfly population.

This happens because of a genetic factor in the W chromosome. This gene is carried by the males, hidden in their genetic makeup and is passed to their daughters.

This morph can only happen to female eastern tiger swallowtails. It is part of an adaptation and display of mimcry to the poisonous pipevine butterfly as a form of self defense!

This female will produe all dark morph daughters and yellow variation will produce all yellow daughters.

Have you seen one of these this year?! taken in Monarch Ranch Butterfly Conservatory, LLC by @monarchranchsc

It is hard to look at something this delicate and understand what she is about to do.

The monarchs passing through our farm still have 1,970 miles to travel before reaching the mountains of Mexico. They will face wind, storms, predators, disappearing habitat, and stretches where the flowers they depend on may be difficult to find.

And yet, they go.

These tiny creatures follow a path they have never traveled to a place they have never seen. Somehow, they know when to leave. Somehow, they know which direction will lead them home.

Watching them in our garden makes me feel protective of every single one. I wish I could shelter them for the entire journey, but all we can do is give them a safe place to rest, fill their wings with strength, and hope they make it.

Fly safely, little one. There are 1,970 miles between you and home, and we are rooting for you the entire way.

Right now it is butterfly season at Monarch Ranch Butterfly Conservatory. Schedule your visit today for the chance to see one of natures greatest migrations and the creatures included in the journey.
