Let me go back! Let me go back and relive my son’s childhood. Let me go back to last summer 😎 when he turned 18 years old. Never, did I ever think 💭I would want that, but here I am. As a mom, I would go back to my son being little or the beginning of his senior year.

If I could tell my younger mom self anything it would be to stress less. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Enjoy the baby season when my boys were younger. Take more summers off and enjoy their time as young toddlers👶. Seeing them grow into men the last few years I have asked myself how can I slow down time? Take me back.
Now I need to enjoy this season as my son is a young man starting college!

My loved one does NOT need the reminder every few hours that they can’t drive 🚘 any longer. It’s a sensitive issue and it gets my loved one upset. I’m not hiding stuff from my parent, but unfortunately my other parent will get my parents’ wrath if I don’t.
It’s not fair to the primary caregiver.

This is not the 1st time this has happened. If I know something upsets or frustrates my loved one I try to alleviate it or take away anything that may upset them. This helps with sundowning because this is a hot topic. If I know something makes my loved one upset, it’s better to take it away.

When watching a Bruno Mars video for Risk it all, my parent with Dementia will ask me a lot of questions. They will ask the same questions over & over. And that’s okay. Their 🧠 restarts almost every 3-5 minutes. Therefore, before the song is even over they may repeat or ask the same question over and over again. It’s not their fault because their working memory/short term memory is impaired.

Here are some strategies that I use as a caregiver/daughter/SLP:

1) Listen with love ❤️.
2) Answer the question like it’s the first time you’ve heard it.
3) Be patient & let your loved one ask 7-10x.

This helps my loved one get through the day. Sometimes they like to dance 💃 and those are fun days too. Just being with your loved one and being patient is important.

No, No, No thank you ASHA. I will Not be paying you more $ to count my CEUs. Yes, I have been a member for 22 years and I get nada for my ASHA dues membership but a magazine subscription.

I tried to look up some current research regarding spasmodic dysphonia and guess what? I didn’t have access as a member to the full study like what? How is it their mission to help our community members and people with communicative disorders if we don’t have access and neither do they? Why gate keep the information? I will be taking care of my own transcripts thank you very much!

Did you know you can use any pool toys in the bathtub or water table? Some people don’t have a pool so use them in the tub or in the backyard with a water tub. Look for sales as it’s midsummer and also look at the end of summer. Summer 😎 toys usually go on sale and that’s when you snag them for cheap. This set of 4 was $1.25 @ralphsgrocery.

A little getaway and wow this hotel had a major makeover since I last saw it. It used to be a small motel and now it’s the Capistrano Coast house. Very close to the beach and restaurants. It’s right off PCH and between San Clemente & Dana Point. I ❤️the entire room and outdoor patios. We had dinner plans and couldn’t take advantage of the outdoor patio space. The had beautiful dutch doors 🚪entering and out to the patio. They had complimentary coffee & muffins served in a cute coffee style atmosphere in the morning. @capistranocoasthouse

El Matatan in Orange just opened a sister restaurant in Laguna Beach. A must try is their brunch corn banana pancakes! So delicious. I also like their green chilaquiles. All of their food and drinks are amazing.

Their 2nd location is located at: 237 Ocean Blvd. in Laguna Beach. We have gone for brunch, mother’s day and dinner. Beautiful indoor and outdoor seating at both locations. @elmatatan_oc

When life gives you purple tomatillos, you make tomatillo salsa. So beautiful and freshly grown by my neighbor/vecino! The leaf is so pretty. I boiled them and then put them in a blender with onion, tomato, cilantro, & lemon/lime. Use salt to taste! Tomatillo salsa anyone?

Sunday morning & walks are keeping me busy this summer. Also I can’t forget about all the dishes in my kitchen sink. Ugh! I am trying to be more active and get more Vitamin D. I’m trying! My plantar fascitis is also better because I have done stemwave, which has given me the ability to walk better and with minimal pain.
