In 1979 (we’re going back a bit - stay with me), my dad Billy Nelson built his first “Man Cave” in our backyard. Warren Green and I helped paint it, along with each other I’m pretty sure lol! He loved his shop!🤎

Yesterday we closed on the home that built us! Stephen Skinner was our realtor - who else would we have used to complete this journey! However, there was as one “piece” missing…

Stephen’s son, Graham, creates pens out of wood and does an awesome job at it. One day when Stephen had gone to the house to double check on keys, etc., he went into my dad’s shop and found a piece of wood just randomly sitting against the back wall. He grabbed it and asked Graham to make pens from it. 🖊️🤎. THANK YOU, Stephen and Graham for not only giving us the pens but just the thought of designing them using a piece of my dad’s shop is just heartwarming!! ♥️ Fills my soul! The last few years have definitely been a “growing” experience- not only mentally but spiritually. I thought “adulting” was suppose to be fun lol! 🤷‍♀️

Wendell and I drove last weekend to Baton Rouge to watch our 2nd daughter Caroline Ramagos get married. On our way there, we stopped in my hometown of Longview, Texas to take one last look at the home my dad built in 1968 (we close on it next month). My aunt and uncle Betty Wilbanks Clark loved the area so much, they too built a house, directly across the street from us - and so the fun began!

I have no siblings, only child here. But my cousins Michael ClarkVivian Clark CollinsPam Clark WilliamsDeby Clark Stegall made me feel like I was one of them! My parents best friend’s son, Stephen Skinner was an “only” as well and they, too, became family! We all grew up together, leaves and cats and all!! Who knew one day Stephen would become our realtor and sell my childhood home. Funny how life plays out and circles back around.

I’m super thankful to have these memories and grateful beyond words. Thank you mom Carolyn Nelson for everything! Introducing me to Jesus, so I can enjoy an abundant and eternal life! Thankful for my “family across the street” who gave me grace over the years when I would burst through their door unannounced and love me through the good times and the bad.

My prayer to the new owner is I hope you enjoy this home as much as we have. I know you’ll have amazing years and pray you’ll enjoy it, too! Thank you, Eva Drive, for all the Mems!!! Love you always!! 🏡♥️ by @monicaelms
