This is the architectural side of thrifting that I love: I collect, restore, and reimagine.

When I saw this old iron fence, I didn’t just see what it was—I saw what it could become: a welcoming entrance filled with history, character, and charm.

The curtains were too short.
The painting was too narrow.
Apparently, they were just waiting for each other. 🤍

The thrift store only had one pair—and I needed two. To make matters worse, they were too short. But I loved the fabric, so I bought them anyway!

Armed with a seam ripper and a little patience, I opened the hems and discovered four hidden inches at the top and another four at the bottom.

That gave my curtains an eight-inch growth spurt! After serging the raw edges and washing away the old fold lines, I finally had the length I needed.

Meanwhile, the fluid acrylic painting I made and framed in 2020 had been serving a six-year sentence on wall-art probation because I thought I had made it too narrow.

Then this section came together perfectly, don't you think?

What do you think?

After giving my Brooklyn backyard a much-needed cleanup, I could finally see my little escape in the concrete jungle again. It’s amazing what a little tidying, rearranging, and care can do for a space.

And, of course, I had to show off a few of my favorite plants—each one bringing its own shape, texture, and personality. Those beautiful pink blooms clearly understood the assignment. 🌸

In a city known for concrete, traffic and skyscrapers, growing something beautiful feels a little bit whimsical.

This vintage Louis XV-style armchair was falling apart—literally, it came to me with a challenge and a choice.
The client said, “If you can’t fix it, throw it away. But if you can… can you find a fabric that’s close to what’s already on there?” 🤔💬

Challenge accepted!

Moníc Restorations to the rescue!

After hours of stripping, restuffing, sanding, staining, and sourcing the fabric, she’s back to her former glory with a beautifully similar striped fabric and coordinating tapestry for a little extra flair. I had a little extra fabric, so I threw in a throw pillow.🌺

Now she’s not only restored, she’s revived.

Take a look at the before and after of these gorgeous French Louis XVI chairs that I reupholstered and enhanced with some special details! ✨

These elegant chairs now add a touch of charm to the bedrooms of an AirBnB I recently styled for a client. Transforming these chairs was the highlight of the project, and I’m thrilled with how they turned out.

I’d love to know what you think—feel free to leave a comment! ✨

This table said: "I've seen some things... don't ask me where the scratches came from. "

Look at her now stripped, sanded and sealed.

Never underestimate what a little stripping, sanding and sealer can do for furniture and for life for that matter. by @monicrestorations
