Coming back to the gym after a lil 3 week break has made me realise how much I love the gym and how lucky I feel to get to go to this gym 🥹

I’m just reflecting on how much the gym has changed my life. I started training at this exact gym coming up to almost 9 years ago in January. I started training when I was 17 after going through a really tough period in my life and it became a place that made me feel so empowered and gave me such a sense of purpose. I very quickly fell in love with it and shortly after started this account all those years ago. I used to write long captions, some things never change haha, and just loved sharing my love for fitness and the journey (before we had to think about how to hook your attention and make every post aesthetic and trendy which sent me into a posting paralysis for a couple of years).

I’ve had a very on and off relationship with the gym for years and I’ve not always made it a priority (it was a cycle of start stop illness start stop illness start stop 😂😭) but no matter how long I went without training I always came back.

I’ve tried many many gyms over the years (probably 50+) but for some reason THIS gym holds a special place in my heart because it’s the one that started it all.

Being back training here after all these years feels so special. The gym has changed, I’ve changed but the love for the gym remains. And I can’t stop but think of younger Moni and how proud she’d be of how far she’s come in that journey.

What a sweet life, to be able to workout.
Earphones in, lifting weights, empty gym, me time, do not disturb mode on.
It really is in those moments, in those little moments to yourself, away from the noise, where you realise wow I’m so lucky. by @monifituk

When you change your identity and how you see yourself, your actions will change to fit who you are.

I love that movement is part of my daily routine now. Going to the gym, going for a walk, going for a run or just moving a lot around the house (chores, dancing, standing for long periods, multitasking) makes me feel so good!

I used to be that person that could stay in the house all day or even days, and get absolutely no movement in and then I wondered why I felt so low mentally and physically all the time? I would genuinely be stuck in a rut for weeks and weeks and just had no motivation to leave the house or even go to the gym. And it is hard when you’re in this mental state but pushing yourself to get some light movement in whether that’s dancing around the house, being more active around the house with chores, giving yourself little tasks to do, or signing up for a gym class will literally change how you feel!

Movement is so so powerful for the mind. If you notice that you’re overthinking or feel really low or drained and then you start moving, going for a walk, dancing, it will literally change your whole mood!

I genuinely think being consistent with movement this year has had such an incredible impact on my mental health. And as a result it’s had such an impact on my energy in other areas of life too! I feel so much more joyful and peaceful and less stressed and anxious overall. Movement shouldn’t be something we “schedule” into our day, it’s something we just do because of who we are. When you change your identity and how you see yourself, you will change your actions. If you see yourself as a fit person, you will do things that a fit person does. Reframe your identity and who you are and you will act accordingly. by @monifituk

If you’ve got any ab exercises you like to do, let me know!! 🙏🏼

This is the first video on my insta with shorts on (it’s only taken me 8 years 😂) so feeling proud that I now feel confident to wear them!!! 🥰 by @monifituk

Pull session this morning ✔️

Absolutely loving the early morning gym sessions sooo much omg!! 🥹 I had to get a session in this morning because I’m travelling tonight (writing this whilst I’m in the airport 😂✈️) but I absolutely loved it and I loveee that it’s soo quiet in the mornings so I can also film without getting in anyone’s way!

I tried a couple of exercises that I hadn’t done in a while today like the lat pulldown machine and face pulls ☺️

I’m feeling so so good at the minute with my training and just falling in love with the gym again! It took me a couple of months to start gaining my confidence back and I really feel like I’m getting there. Excited to keep pushing and building and become the best version of myself 🤍 6 months to go til the end of the year and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds xx by @monifituk

I tried going to the gym in the morning and it felt so so good!!!! I might actually start doing this more often 🤔

I felt so productive having done a full gym session before 9am?!? 🤭 Are you a gym in the morning or afternoon kinda person? 💛

I love going in the afternoons because I find I have a lot more energy and it’s what I look forward to every single day after work but going in the morning made me feel like I had way more hours in my day! I genuinely was like it’s only 9am?? Since gym is ticked off for me today, I can spend the rest of the evening editing videos yay 💗💗

Still can’t get over the fact I have no calves (and thanks to the person reminding me of this daily 😂🥲) by @monifituk

Happpyyy Tuesday!!
Abs and calves for today because I have no abs and no calves and it’s not looking good 🥲

These are two areas that I haven’t prioritised for a long time as you can clearly tell but we are changing that and upping the frequency of them every week!! I think at some point I just forgot my calves also needed some attention too 🫣

Anywayyyy this is going to be a staple in my workout routine because I cannot be missing abs and calves again 😂 I’m still trying to get comfortable with these exercises but excited to work at them!! 💛💛
And I’m still trying to improve my form on the ab crunches but we’ll get there xx

Also the gym was sooo busy today but glad I didn’t shy away from filming and managed to avoid getting people in the shots 🫶🏼

What are your favourite ab and calf exercises?? Let me know ⬇️ by @monifituk

I’ve not posted some gym videos in sooo long!!! 🫣

I’m going to use this account as a fun way to document my gym progress but also as a bit of a fitness diary!
I used to overthink what to post and if it would resonate and if anyone cared and then ended up not posting on here for years so I’m not going to put any pressure on myself and just post for fun!!
If you’re a bit of a perfectionist you probably get me with this 🤣
This is just a safe space to post and I’m not going to overthink it and just post whateverrrr 🙃 sooo follow along!! 💛💛

Today was a fun push session, didn’t film it all because the gym was busy and didn’t want to get people in the videos but here are some clips xxx by @monifituk

Life has so many seasons.

Seasons of growth, seasons of loss, seasons of peace, seasons of hardship, seasons of rebuilding and seasons of success. No matter where you are in life, you have to embrace the season that you’re in. Sometimes we want to rush to the next thing, the next season, the next “when this happens…” or “when I finally…”. and it is important to look towards the future but also appreciate where we are right now because time is so fleeting and we’ll miss the small moments of every day life.

You might be where you always dreamed of being or you might not be where you thought you would be at this point in your life. But this is your reminder that you are exactly where you were meant to be.

I’ve definitely felt like the latter over the past couple of months/years and it is easy to compare our lives, become dissatisfied and live in a constant state of “I never thought I would be here at this age”. But I’ve realised that every season has its purpose, every season comes with its lessons and every season comes with its own blessings. And it’s up to us to learn them, to see them and to appreciate them. If we rush to the future we’ll end up missing all of it. by @monifituk

I didn’t grow up in fitness or sport (apart from chess).

It took me a long time to get here and I am beyond grateful for where I am today (sometimes I forget but writing this post is making me really appreciate how far I’ve come).

I grew up really skinny and my dream was always to gain weight so I could lift things (like big chess pieces), play sports like tennis and actually hit the ball and have the energy to run around! Being skinny affected me for the longest time because clothes wouldn’t fit me and my mum would always have to buy clothes in multiple sizes down. It made me feel fragile, weak and vulnerable.

We all have an origin story. A reason WHY for going to the gym. For some people it’s because they want to be in better shape, for others it’s the natural thing to do as they grew up in sport but for others it’s because they were skinny or overweight as a child and they’re doing it for their younger self. When I started my fitness journey in 2018, the latter was exactly why I was showing up for myself.

What got you into fitness? 🥹💗

The beauty is in the JOURNEY and not in the destination. 🤍

We’ve all had goals, big or small, that we’ve wanted to achieve and we’ve fought long and hard to achieve them. There have been times when we wanted to quit amidst the challenges and difficulties but we stuck through it, we persevered and ultimately achieved our goal. However, when we got to celebrate the goal, it didn’t all end there. Then we set ourselves more goals and once those were achieved, we set some more. And every time, the beauty was in the journey. In the long, hard, sweaty, difficult journey. The destination was also nice but it couldn’t be appreciated without considering the path of the journey.

This is the same for a fitness journey. We have goals to get shredded by summer or bulk up for winter and maybe it takes us 12 weeks, 12 months or 12 years to get to where we want to go. We will face setbacks, we will slip up into bad habits and we will get ill. But the beauty will always be in the journey. The every day, trying every day to be better. Having hope that the future will be brighter than the present which is what motivates us to be consistent with the gym sessions, the sweaty spin classes and the mentally taxing long runs.

The journey gives us hope that tomorrow will be better than yesterday and that through each day that passes we can grow into a more beautiful version of ourselves. 🌱🌸🌷
