I’m a little scared to post this, which is probably exactly why I need to.

I was talking to some friends recently about the things I want to build, and they basically asked me: how are you ever going to make any of it real if you’re too afraid to tell people what you’re working on?

Fair.

So, I’m finally saying it out loud: I’m building The Good Wife.

This is a passion project in the truest sense of the word — something I’ve been thinking about, writing around, researching, questioning, and quietly carrying for a while. And I’m at the point where I don’t want to carry it alone. I want to find the writers, editors, photographers, artists, designers, thinkers, and slightly unruly people who see the vision and want to build it with me.

Working in this industry has not always made me feel capable. There are a lot of fucking gatekeepers. There are rooms that can make you question whether you belong in them at all.

But there have also been people who opened doors for me, vouched for me, hired me, published me, taught me, introduced me, and reminded me what I was capable of when I forgot. I want to hold both of those truths at once.

And maybe part of becoming the person you want to be is deciding you don’t need permission to begin.

So this is me beginning publicly.

I hope this post is also a little push for anyone sitting on a project they love because they’re waiting to feel more qualified, more connected, more established, more ready. Tell people about it. Make the ugly first version. Ask for help. Put the thing into the world.

You are probably more capable than the industry has made you feel.

The Good Wife is coming in 2028. And I’m looking for a team.

Somewhere, I’m married. I’m an accountant. I have excellent credit, a husband, and a life that went exactly according to plan.

Here, I’m 33, reading jared sexton + saidiya hartman, questioning heterosexuality, and discovering that the woman I was supposed to become might not have been the woman I wanted to be.

This is an essay about mourning a future that never happened, surviving the one that did, and learning to love the woman who emerged instead.

I still grieve her sometimes. But God, I think I like this one better.

I took my mother and big sister out to dinner because sometimes the girls deserve to be wined and dined. Without the wine, of course. We’re cocktail women. 🍸

There are few things I love more than getting dressed up, sitting down to a beautiful meal, and spending an evening with the women who have known me my entire life. Good food, beautifully made cocktails, even better company. What more could a girl ask for?

A very special thank you to Cuvée in Thibodaux for graciously hosting our girls’ night and to Executive Chef @gregautin for such a lovely dining experience. It makes me so happy to see beautiful things happening right here in my hometown.

Consider this your reminder to take the women in your life on a date. Life is short. Order dessert. And another cocktail. 🤍

One of heterosexuality’s greatest intellectual achievements is convincing women that marriage is a sacrifice men make, rather than an institution from which they disproportionately benefit.

Simone de Beauvoir called it otherness. Lacan might have called it desire structured around lack. I call it excellent marketing.

Finding your signature scent as an adult is as important as knowing when to leave a party, having good credit, and understanding that not everyone deserves access to you. Some things should be unmistakably yours.

Mine is 1000g by Gamine. The smell is INTOXICATING. Like a woman in a perfectly tailored Saint Laurent suit who has absolutely no intention of explaining herself.
