POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I needed an excuse to use this song in a reel this summer and what’s a better way than introducing our newly finished click-on skirt and some new bags! 🥰

夏だねー!☀️

A single click, and they fit on any type of outfit!✨
Handmade from vintage kurotomesode kimono — every skirt is ready to be worn your way. Either on a skirt, dress or pants! Possibilities are endless! 🤭🌸
I particularly like how the pattern flows through the obi this time! The size is also adjustable through the belt 🤗

I’ll be taking this one to the next event, which is Abunai in the Netherlands before putting it on the webshop but you can already find all the new bags online! 💖🫶

Kurotomesode are the most formal kimono worn by married women, traditionally black with intricate designs along the hem. Once treasured and passed down, many are now discarded as lifestyles change. We rescue these forgotten silks and give them new life — reimagined as wearable stories. 😉🌸

➡️ Have any questions about this skirt? Want to reserve one or have a particular colour in mind? I’m always open to hear from you! 🤗

My first art vs artist post, which means my first self introduction on this Instagram account 🙌
My real name is Tosca and I’m the owner of Monogatari! 😘

The Japanese culture and language have been my passion since I’m 12 so that’s why my little business and illustrations are dedicated to this country! 🤗

From flashcards to learn Japanese, to earrings, hair accessories, keychains, stickers and other illustrations, I make everything myself! Hence why putting up new collections often takes a while… too many projects! 🙈 I also import a limited collection of products from Japan, but since this is an art vs. artist-post, I will put that part aside for now 😅

I lived in Tokyo and Osaka between 2015-2016 and 2018-2020 and hope to continue to share my experiences and perceptions through stories on this account!

5 Fun facts about me:
🇯🇵 I was part of the Sumo and Yosakoi team at my university in Japan
🇯🇵 My first manga was Marmalade Boy followed by Death Note
🇯🇵 I worked at a Japanese Shrine
🇯🇵 All photos used on this account are from my own camera roll! (Which includes 50.000+ photos taken in Japan 😂)
🇯🇵 My current favourite anime is Jujutsu Kaisen

In the following years I hope to make a small comic book about my adventures in Japan and have my own physical store some day 🥺 by @monogatari.be

As the leaves begin to fall here in Belgium too, it reminds me why autumn is my favourite season in Japan. There's something special about the colours, the atmosphere, and the details you notice along the way.

Sometimes, those details, hold some interesting stories.

Today, let's discover some Japanese words inspired by this scene. 🍂

As autumn arrives in Japan, people take part in momiji-gari (紅葉狩り), which literally means “hunting for autumn leaves”. Much like hanami in spring, when people gather to admire the cherry blossoms, momiji-gari is all about appreciating the beautiful colours of the leaves. 🍁

The little stacks of stones, or tsumiishi (積み石), have a more contemplative side. At some Buddhist temples and sacred sites, they are associated with prayers and remembrance for the deceased. They are also connected to the legend of Sai no Kawara, where children who passed away before their parents are said to stack stones in the afterlife, building small towers in the hope of reaching paradise. by @monogatari.be

A little kimono sketch to bring some art back to your feed ✨🍁it’s been a while (again) since I’ve last posted one of my drawings here! I’m still thinking about leaving her as a pencil drawing or not 🤔

Meanwhile several packages from Japan are on their way to the Monogatari HQ 🤭💖

Since I don’t have many markets coming up for a while, I hope you won’t mind me giving the online store a little more love than usual 😉😘 by @monogatari.be

With Abunai coming to an end for this year, it’s time to share the schedule for our next three upcoming events! 🎉

We’ll be heading to the Netherlands twice in the coming months, and we’re also hoping to see you at the Japanese Garden in Hasselt! 🌸

Of course, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather there. The past two years have blessed us with beautiful sunny summer days in the Japanese gardens, so hopefully we’ll get lucky again this year! ☀️🤞

Will we see you at one of these events? 💚 by @monogatari.be

We have had the wind chime (風鈴) in the shop as earrings for a while, but now you can find the real deal in our webshop as well!🎐✨

In Japan, the delicate chime of a glass wind bell is one of the sounds of summer. Even on the hottest days, its clear, refreshing tone brings a feeling of coolness and calm.

These beautiful wind chimes are handcrafted by
artisans in Aomori. Each piece is mouth-blown and inspired by the changing Japanese seasons.

Hang one near an open window, close your eyes, and let its gentle melody transport you to a quiet Japanese summer afternoon. 💙

You can find more shapes and colours online! 🥰 by @monogatari.be

New Keychain Alarm 🚨
If you hadn’t noticed, a package with keychains has arrived this week, meaning that previous collections are restocked, and new ones are introduced! 🙈

Staying in the Matsuri theme, I want to show my newest illustration, turned into a keychain 😘 Drawing the Taiyaki really escalated my cravings haha 🤤

Every piece has a gold foil front and a silver foil back! As well as a little bow made from chirimen fabric with Japanese patterns, making every piece unique 🤭✨

The pattern behind the girl in kimono is called Yabane 矢羽. It stands for new beginnings as an arrow once shot, never returns! 🌸 by @monogatari.be

I got a notification telling me it’s been WAY TOO LONG since the last tutorial… so here we go! ✨

This technique lets you make a more detailed and intentional hair look. The braided elements resemble a flower, making it easy to add pearls, or other decorative accents to complete the look 💖🌸

I truly hope you will like both the tutorials as well as the new hairpins! You’ll find a few more new designs online as well 😉🤭#japaninbelgium #hairpin #hairtutorial #japanesehairstyle #kanzashi by @monogatari.be

Matsuri season is almost here. 🌿🏮

One of my favourite things about summer in Japan, and maybe also the only thing, is how the atmosphere slowly changes. Lanterns begin to appear, festival stalls line the streets, and people gather in yukata to watch the fireworks together.

These photos are moments I captured during my travels in Japan— I always tell myself to never visit Japan again during summer time, as I cannot stand the humid heat, but I sure do miss matsuri!

Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing more matsuri-inspired items and seasonal treasures that remind me of these special events.

Something to look forward to ;) by @monogatari.be
