This body of work shown at @lochness.fanpage, an artist-run space in Ghent, Belgium in October 2023, stems primarily from our shared interests in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, where we grew up. As visitors encounter the third piece, they are greeted by a group of 5 tangled serpents molded from clay, swimming through a bed of sand. Snakes were always present where we grew up, and you could often catch sight of them lurking beneath the surface. The idea for the serpents also stemmed from Lochness’s mascot, Nessy. We enjoyed the idea of suggesting a deeper body of sand in the space — and, like the spiraling cows, populated by another group of animals in a sort of artificial performance.

In response to Lochness’s invitation to collaborate on the interior design of their new space, we aimed to craft an installation that mirrored these inspirations. Our vision led to an interactive environment where the flooring could be lifted to integrate artworks directly within the new ground, utilizing sand and other natural materials as the primary mediums. This approach allowed us to create a space that not only serves as a backdrop for art but also engages directly with the themes and textures of the South Carolinian landscape that so deeply influence our work. taken in Ghent, Belgium by @montples

This body of work shown at @lochness.fanpage, an artist-run space in Ghent, Belgium in October 2023, stems primarily from both of our shared interests in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, where we grew up. The area is a captivating mix of rural and suburban landscapes, where suburban lawns contrast with dense untamed foliage and sprawling farmland. The second piece encountered in the space is a field of 50 cows molded from clay, painted, and then delicately carved at to reveal unique spots. Here we aimed to balance a keen sense of the spiral geometric artifice and the naturalness of the cows and materials used. Over the course of days they all gradually topple over, lending them the name Dizzy Cows.

This body of work shown at @lochness.fanpage, an artist-run space in Ghent, Belgium in October 2023, stems primarily from both of our shared interests in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, where we grew up. The area is characterized by the accumulation of shifting salt marshes and sandbanks as river deltas meet the Atlantic Ocean. The first piece encountered in the space references the earthen mounds that can be seen from above on Drum Island—a flat, scarcely vegetated landmass formed out of sand dredged from Charleston’s harbor. There, silt mounds and artificial trails form geometric contours, a vast silt relief map. By highlighting these features with flags of various hues of the Lowcountry, we aimed to accentuate and call on the otherwise nonexistent natural contours of the flat coastal landscape.

Also thanks to @feliciausinto for the help in designing and creation of the flags. taken in Ghent, Belgium by @montples

Francisco Infante - Projects of Reconstruction of the Star Sky, 1965-67

Been scouring the web for images of these gauche paintings by legendary Russian artist Francisco Infante. His work (usually sculpture) tends to center on casual and radical reconstructions of the most fundamental sights behind existence. Here he is ordering the constellations. by @montples
