October is about more than pumpkin spice and falling leaves. 🍂 It’s also Domestic Violence Awareness Month — a time to stand with survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and remind anyone experiencing abuse that they are not alone. 💜

Animals can be an incredible source of comfort, companionship, and strength. 🐾❤️ They can help us feel safe, grounded, loved, and supported through some of life’s hardest moments.

MY MOMMIE IS A SURVIVOR. ❤️‍🩹

My Mommie survived domestic violence.

For a long time, she carried the weight of things she never deserved. The fear. The confusion. The silence. The moments when she questioned her own strength and wondered if she would ever feel safe again.

But she made it out.

Being a survivor doesn’t mean Mommie wasn’t scared.
It doesn’t mean she wasn’t broken down.
It means that despite everything, she kept going.

Mommie is learning that healing isn’t about forgetting what happened. It’s about realizing that what happened to her does not get to define who she becomes.

She is rebuilding her life.
She is finding her voice.
She is learning to trust herself again.
She is choosing peace over chaos.
She is choosing herself.

And if you’re still in that place, please know this:

It is not your fault. You deserve safety. You deserve respect. You deserve a life without fear.

You are not weak for staying.
You are not weak for struggling to leave.
And you are never too broken to begin again.

One day at a time.
One breath at a time.
One step at a time.

Mommie survived. She is healing. She is still here. And I am so proud of the person she is becoming. ❤️‍🩹

You should completely ignore an on-duty PTSD service dog and speak only to the handler if you need to communicate.
General Etiquette
• Ignore the dog: Do not pet, talk to, make eye contact with, whistle at, or take pictures of a working service dog. Treat the animal like medical equipment.
• Speak to the handler: If you must speak, address the human directly, not the animal.
• Keep your distance: Give the working team plenty of physical space and keep your own pets away.
What Not to Ask
• Do not ask about the disability: Avoid asking why the person needs the dog or what trauma they experienced, as invisible disabilities and PTSD details are private and can be triggering.
• Do not ask for a demonstration: Never ask the handler to make the dog perform a task.
• Do not ask to pet: It is best not to distract a working dog, as the answer will almost always be NO !!! #ptsd #fyp #poodleservicedog #torontodogs #mentalhealth taken in Toronto, Ontario by @moobert_einstein
